Re: Quiz, Can you name this plane

Thanks Cruv' = what's you're 'take' on that windscreen, in Post 2812 ?????????

Do you agree with P.N.F. ???????

Is it from a Night-Fighter variant, if it's from a Meteor, at all ?????????

My first impression was that's a Harrier's windscreen. However, assuming it's right side up, the side frames slant up and outwards, which is a very unusual configuration. Normally, they are straight up and down or angled with the widest portion at the base. This is a tough one.

How close does it look to this one?

Epz's right - I found it tough; even now I'm only 90% sure - but in comparison with other types, Meteors were 'ten-a-penny'.

So I guess it must be from an NF.11 - NF.12 - or (?) possibly an NF.14, right ?????????

Cruv' = I'm presuming this shot (above) is an F.8 ????????

There was also an F.86 canopy/Hood - laying only a few yards away........

But, the main reason we were there for - well I'll put that out, in this thread later tonight (as I'm due out, soon) when I've got more time.......

Certainly didn't expect to find this stuff, laying in the grass......(had no camera; so my mate Adrian took the shots - Aug 1995)

I do think it's the centre panel of the windscreen from a NF Meteor.

I reckon you're right, P.N.F.

The bloke who owns the scrapyard is a bit of a nut.

In 1995 when we 1st visited (on the suggestion of an RAF Tornado airframe fitter, who'd previously been based in Germany; & returned home to find this & 'other' treasures), the guy who owned the yard was friendly enough........ (there were four of us there).

When I returned about two years later, he was very belligerent & unwilling to talk/help.

Apparently some 'pikeys' had stolen his Articulated-Trailer that he paid a lot of money for, so was unfriendly.

HERE was the TRUE reason we were there in August 1995....... (it beggars-belief)

See if you guys can guess what it is ????????

Hawker Tempest fuselage section? Or possibly a Hawker Seafury too.

My guess would be a P-47D.

Re: Quiz, Can you name this plane

After looking a bit harder, have to go with a Hawker Tempest.

Yep, bang-on Chaps !!!!!

& get this = it's an Ultra-Rare Tempest Mk.V

There's only TWO left in the entire World !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can you imagine how amazed my mate & I were when we met Trevor, the 'Ex'-Tornado airframe fitter, at nearby RAF-Marham; who then told us of a Hawker Tempest in a local-scrapyard ????????

We were laughing at the improbability of it all....... till we walked down the Riverbank & saw it, for real !!!!!!!!!!!

Unbelieveable it was !!!!!!!!!! (serial No. of this airframe not-known, sadly)

Has anyone snapped this airframe up, or is it still there?
