Bamboo P-51 (approx 1/72 scale!)

I finally got a pic of my grandfather's P-51 that was made out of bamboo by a local Chinese man while he was serving in the CBI theater. The bullet stand is a .50 cal...still live, too.

It has seams like a plastic model. It looks like it was put together like a plastic model. But it's all bamboo. And considering it was carved 1944-45, it's held up quite well.

That is a treasure, Cavtanker. Will it possibly ever belong to you, you young wippersnaper?!?! (it's your GRANDFATHER'S. My father was getting ready to be shipped out when the atomic bombs were dropped and ended the war). Quit making me feel old!

Looks better than Corgi's attempt at the P-51.

And here's his original dress uniform...Shawn, we need to go back to these. The tan is a great way to commemorate serving in the desert.

One of the next time I get there, I'm going to take his photo album and scan all the pics and post them here. Approx. 100 or so pics of various P-40s, P-51s, bases in China and all his friends.

I'm with you 100%. But the idiots in carge think going to Blues will do more for the Army than the WW2 look. Like there is anyone alive that can remember first hand when the Army wore blue. Idiots!

Re: Bamboo P-51 (approx 1/72 scale!)

I'm surprised no one has watched John Wayne in "The Green Berets" and seen him in the old tan dress uniform. Maybe they think we'd look to much like the Marines and Navy with their tan dress uniform.

Re: Bamboo P-51 (approx 1/72 scale!)

Army times did the poll and the top three were, in order:
1. The WW2 look
2. Khakis
3. Blues
Lesson learned, pick your top three, switch 1 and 3, then the Army will choose what you really want!
