| Re: Bamboo P-51 (approx 1/72 scale!) That is really cool of you to post these pictures....Priceless memories...That is a first for me seeing a P-40 decoy like that too. I like the WWII uniforms better as well.... But still...THE USMC dress blues are the best... ![]() | |||||||||||||

| Re: Bamboo P-51 (approx 1/72 scale!) Hey Jim! A P-40 guru like you has been holding out on us poor no-nothings. Bamboo! No wonder they were invulnerable to enemy fire-the rounds just passed right on through. Next question; who's selling these beauties and for how much? I really want Scott's bamboo P-40. ![]() | |||||||||||||

| Re: Bamboo P-51 (approx 1/72 scale!)
That is the most amazing model rendition, and the most historically accurate display I've ever seen! Cavtanker, don't ever let go of that one...thanks for sharing! Unfortunately, my grandfather never told me about his service in WWII, nor his experiences. Man, what I wouldn't give for a few minutes with him. All I know is, that he served with the CIC and married my grandmother, a German citizen who has her own war stories! For historically accurate I mean the following: this model was made by someone who was living history, we like to nitpick our models for missing this rivet or that rivet, but this was made by someone who was graced by THE most amazing person in this world...an AMERICAN soldier For my British and Canadian service members, I love you too! And I respect your service! Please don't associate the above with a lack of respect | ||||||||||||||

| Re: Bamboo P-51 (approx 1/72 scale!) Exactly. That P-40 was meant to be shot up by Japanese fighters as a decoy. He has a lot of pics of his friends on the ground. My grandmother told me that the winter of 1944-45 in China was bad, so any day in which the squadron did not fly, he walked around taking pictures or working on his little projects. He built his own Zippo lighter and engraved his squadron insignia on it. Now that takes some work! | |||||||||||||
