Guess the Plane

Hey, you guys ... remember the thread we started on ol’ Model Hangar I, where we posted pics of planes and guessed what they were?

Let’s do it again! I’ll post the first pic, and you guess what it is. The member who guesses correctly gets to post the next pic, and so on. Ready?

What’s this plane (and be careful; it might not be what you think!)?

It isn't faith that makes good science, Mr. Klaatu, it's curiosity. Sit down, please. There are several thousand questions I'd like to ask you.

Re: Guess the Plane

Dog gone it, Hoverbug ... how'd you guess that so quickly-??!!

You're right. It's on display at the Seattle Museum of Flight in Tukwila, WA. With 80 flights and 123.9 flight hours, this aircraft is the least flown of the remaining Blackbirds. This M-21 was never used for D-21 launches, but mostly as a D-21 ferry vehicle and chase plane. It's one of two remaining Blackbirds that feature a black and bare metal paint scheme.

Good on ya! TAKE IT AWAY, HOVERBUG!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Guess the Plane

Funny thing about that US Air Boeing in the right of the photo. It was in Pittsburgh for a while, and was a piece of junk. It was old, and had been hammered around pretty hard. There were patches all down the sides of the fuselage. It looks like they have done a good job with it.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Try this one! It's my favorite F4U Corsair look-alike.

Re: Guess the Plane

Looks like a Spit, but the wings are wrong. Tail, too. I haven't a clue, Sky.

Thats gotta be a Firebrand Mark 11, torpedo removed and replaced with rockets.
It was originally going to be a short range carrier based interceptor but was not up to the job.

You can just make out the hook at the back, (well they wouldnt put it at the front).

God Bless America.

Re: Guess the Plane

Spot on, Jim! The Blackburn B-37 Firebrand. It's a tough looking bird.

So who's up next?
