Thumbs up Re: Halifax, Lancaster and Hurricane bones

Great that there are still photos out there of the past. That pic of the scrapped hurricane does have what has to be a Wellington .
Thanks again for sharing.

Re: Halifax, Lancaster and Hurricane bones

Wonder what happened to all these relics? The locals probably used the metal and other items for their houses or whatever. Would love to have part of the hurricane wing or whatever but it is probably being used as a shelf in a home or a watering trough for a camel to this day.

I'd say so Timbo - definitely geodetic structure!

Many, many thanks for posting Smartd.........

It may interest you to know that the Lancaster is STILL (in that pic') wearing it's "Tiger-Force" colour scheme !!!!!!!!!!
(White top - Black undersides)

These were Lancaster's that were repainted & designated to Squadrons that were due to (earmarked) to fight the Japanese !!!!!!!!!

Luckily, for them - the exploits of "Enola-Gay" & "Bockscar" put paid to that ever happening !!!!!!!!!

(the idea being that, as the Allies had (generally) wrestled command of the air against the Japs - the Lanc's would be brightly marked, so there could be no "friendly-Fire" incidents.......(unless the attackers were stupid, or blind !!!!)
White top halves does seem pretty harsh though !!!!!!!!

Note, it has the "low" mid-upper turret, reminiscient of the Canadian (Mynarski) Lanc' - without the upper fuselage fairing (found on most Lanc's with their more traditional Fraser-Nash turrets)

Through my 'Ex' Father-in-Law, I met & spent an evening with a Stirling/Halifax pilot, who was ALSO based (obviously) with your uncle !

He was flying Radial-Engined Halifaxes in Egypt in 1946 also !!!!!!!!!! (B.III's & B.VII's - rounded wing-tips)

He showed me his personal Log-Book, with serials/times/dates flown, PLUS some TRULY AMAZING pix, taken in mid-air, of Paratroops jumping out over the edge of the Desert, from these Post-War Halifaxes !!!!!!!!!!!
Stuff that we'll never see in Books !!!!!!!!! (I did try & tell him to get them duplicated, to no avail)
There were ground shot's too.

Around that time, his Son Andrew------ , became Conservative M.P. for Romford, Essex (a London suberb) -
Sadly, his Wife (Andrew's Mum) had just died, so I didn't 'push-it' (for obvious reasons)
(sorry, can't remember his surname, off the top of my head - I'll check it out, over next few days)

Hope that colours in some of the details on the Bombers, anyway ?

Looks like the (Halton-type) supply pannier (under the belly) is already attached to the a/c in the 'control-tower', near-distant shot.
