PBS - The War

I've been watching the podcasts for the PBS film/series (approx. 900 mins) The War (by Ken Burns) and intend purchasing the DVDs as this appears to be an excellent documentary with plenty of original footage. No experts/historians were interviewed, only those veterans who were actually there (as well as their families, which provides excellent context).

This film is truly a great tribute to all those who by virtue of circumstance (and sometimes conviction) found themselves at the forefront of fighting for those freedoms and liberties enjoyed by subsequent generations (and sadly, often taken for granted).

Have a look at the podcasts and make up your own minds (the DVDs can be pre-ordered from Amazon at a reduced price).

My dad told me that this was really good, and he recorded it on his DVR. I'm gonna watch it the next time I visit.

I've been tivoing the series but alas, likely won't have time to watch it before it gets eaten -- I'll have to get the DVDs I suppose. I've heard great things about it!

Re: PBS - The War

I watched it tonight as well..It really shows you what really went on back then on the homefront and the war itself.
The veterans on the program told their stories well.
I'm still watching the last 15 mins of it right now....Good stuff.

That's just fine and dandy...another diversion from doing real work.
Thanks for the link, JP.

I would recommend you set it to basic level and take the timed delete off. The series is excellent and relay brings home some of the horror these boys went though. I for one am glad it's not take the World at War tack - thats been done before.

Ooops!
