San Fran at it again

Seems you can gay parade during rush hour, hold a demonstration at the same time, but heaven (oops, they don't believe) help you if you want to shoot a US Marine recruitment video. Nope thats not allowed in San Fran. Sure hope the Boys from 29 Stumps don't have to go up there for the next earthquake.

Re: San Fran at it again

I bet the next trip that stupid Iranian President makes will be to San Fran. He probably has season tickets to that team they call the 49ers too.

He can appear with Barry Bonds. They will proclaim in a joint announcement that Bonds has never used steroids or HGH. In fact, per the same proclamation, they have neither in SF or Iran.

So what!!!! - it doen't affect your life.

The Bay area is probably the most productive/creative place in the entire US, and before you go and slag it off again remember that:
a) We live in a democracy where people can be different - and value that - It's part of your job to defend that, not just your beliefs.
b) If it wasn't for the bay area Tech you would probably not be able to type this now!!!

I'm sorry if I comming off on one but I'm just getting a little p-eed off with this.

Ooops!

Note that the comment you quoted did not encompass the entire Bay Area, but only San Francisco. I would hardly equate SF with Walnut Creek. Having worked in San Francisco for a number of years, as well as spending much time in the East Bay and around San Jose, I am very familiar with the area.

In fact what the government of the City and County of San Francisco does with regard to the U.S. military does affect the rest of the country, even if viewed in isolation.

What bothers me the most about San Francisco is its political hypocrisy. It claims to to be sooo tolerant. In fact it is not. It's tolerance range is merely skewed completely to the left. When one moves to the political center, as reflected by the rest of America, and then right from there--San Francisco is intolerant. As yet another example, look to the University presentation put on by the young Democrats and Republicans to honor the fallen of 9/11, which was shouted down by the leftist advocates of free speech--on condition that it is theirs. Free speech for others, especially the many with whom they disagree, is clearly not important, much less a right.

Although not relevant to the issue raised, the Bay area--mostly south of SF--does some excellent high tech and other work. But so does my home town of Austin (and the surrounding area), as well as Dallas, Houston and many other areas in the country. I'm confidant that my meager typing skills would produce legible text postable on the internet with just our local talent.

Notice how "San Fran" and "Iran" sound pretty close... As for Barry Bonds, don't even get me started on that bozo.

The 1st Amendment does not apply unilaterally to any particular political orientation. Shawn has every right to express his disgust at the City of San Fransicso just as SF can express their disgust at the United States military. Shawn never implied that the folks in SF should be barred from expressing their beliefs. Only that he finds their position to be reprehensible-- and he has every right to do so.

Further more, it is not anyone's job to defend beliefs that are opposed to his own but rather to defend the rights of people to express their beliefs. There's a big difference between the two. As an example, I would never defend the white aryan nation's anti-semitic beliefs, however, I do defend their right to express their beliefs.
