Who Killed the Red Baron?

There is a show on Richthoffen's death and who killed him on PBS' Nova tonight, 8:00 pm here in Ohio.

Re: Who Killed the Red Baron?

This is a very controversial subject Capt. Eddie. The general line is that while chasing a potential prey (a Wilifred May I believe was his name) the Rittmeister strayed deep behind British lines. The standard story is that he was then shot down by a Canadian aviator Capt. Roy Brown who had witnessed the chase. However, in recent years this has come into debate as many now believe it was ground fire from Australian troops that brought the fabled Baron down and ulitmately killed him.

Re: Who Killed the Red Baron?

For my money, NOVA pretty much proves that an Australian antiaircraft gunner on Morlancourt Ridge landed the fatal blow. I recommend this program to anyone who loves ol’ Manfred.

Re: Who Killed the Red Baron?

I have many books and DVD's of MVR because he is after all the Ace of Aces in WWI..
I have the nova DVD and it's a good one to watch...I will tell you this......I always thought as a kid that Roy Brown shot the Red Baron down
but as years went by and some of the latest findings are looking more and more like it was gun fire from the ground..
The true missing link is the bullet that was taken out of MVR and as you now that has now been lost..
I read that it one of my books about the bullet....That would of been able to prove who shot him on April 21,1918.
But as history stands Roy Brown from Canada was credited for the kill.
You know a few years later he would not talk about what happened on April 18 1918.
For those of you who have not seen the NOVA program should watch it..

I watched a programme a few years ago that claimed to have the final answer to his death, it did indeed seem to show that he was shot from the ground, a single bullet wound entering from an angle that would have matched that trajectory.

However he died it must have been a relief to the Flying Corp.

Re: Who Killed the Red Baron?

I think I remeber that program. I thought it was inconclusive as to who got him.

Ooops!

I heard it was Professor Plum, in the conservatory, with the pistol.
