It's hard to say, but the Spit is just sooo pretty.

Re: Which WW2 plane (s) would you like to own?

If I could chose one, it would be a P-40. One of the souped up F models with the Merlin would be ideal, but ANY P-40 would do.

Second choice, would be an SBD.

Then again, I picked up a couple of P-40s recently and if I get an SBD diecast next week, I'll switch my choice.

Anything for a weird life.

Sorry to say this djjefhall, but having given this a lot of thought I have to say MkV Spitfire BM 597 from the HAC collection would be my first choice, it was a painfull decision believe me. But that Spitfire is one of the finest restoration jobs I have ever seen and its a genuine combat plane from the war.
But then my 2nd 3rd 4th fifth etc etc would be P40s. The one I would like is heading to Duxford show this year. I love the aggresive look of the early marks. They were made for the sharks teeth paint job.

I wonder if I sneaked onto the airfield at night I could get it started up and steal it away. I think I could JUST about land it in the field out back.

God Bless America.

I used to work for Pratt & Whitney and consider myself a radial man. I'd go for a P-47 or an F4U (but I'd take a P-51 in a pinch).

Good choice , my old friend worked on PWs and he told me that those engines just kept on turning even with a cylinder shot away, he had actually seen this more than once. A pilot told him that apart from running a little rough it got him home no problem.

God Bless America.

I would love to own my very own Me-262 "two-seater" variant. Take you all for a ride and charge a moderate fee!

I beg your forgiveness my friend but I was seduced by the graceful lines of the Spitfire, she is just the most beautiful aircraft every built.

I would like to own a P-40B/C with the birdcage Corsair a close second, but right now I would settle for a piper cub

Jim,
Yeah, okay, you are forgiven. The Spitfire is mighty pretty and I don't think there was ever a more graceful plane.

However, you are officially on double secret probation so you better watch it!

Spitfire MkVb from the Shuttleworth Collection. On a visit there several years ago I had the pleasure of seeing it fly and afterwards the pilot kindly gave me a close up tour of the aircraft. Heaven!
