when does collecting diecast airplanes s%@K!

When you have to move... and when you don't have much time to get all your packing done.

Good god, maybe my wife is right and I do have too many airplanes?

Nah...

Re: when does collecting diecast airplanes s%@K!

I can sympathize, I moved recently and it took me 3 nights after work to get my diecast re-boxed and packed for moving.

I know the feeling a few years ago i moved into this home and i could not believe the Nascar diecast cars i had...Way to many and it took a whole truck load to bring it..
So what did i do..I sold almost all of it and kept maybe a quarter of it...Now i have another problem too many planes are boxed up and not in display...Time to sell these as well.

Re: when does collecting diecast airplanes s%@K!

what makes it more painful is that earlier this summer I moved into a new office in the house -- we turned a one car garage into a really nice room..... with plenty of display room. I went out and bought some nice display cases, got everything set up the way I had always wanted it... then bingo--job change and the need to move closer to S.F. The ironic part is that the new house is bigger, but my office is smaller... so less display room, no room for all the cabinets I bought...and less storage room, too.

Murphy strikes again! I sold off a bunch of stuff, think I will be doing the same again on the other end of the move, too... may just focus on 1:48 and larger. (except for heavies) The less is more approach, if I can cultivate the discipline!

How far are you from SF ?
Make sure you have earthquake insurance there....I drive down on there about once a month I-5 to 505 then to 80 and all that crazy traffic they have there.
San Jose is where i end up...
Maybe you can put a curio in the bedroom like Harry did.....just a thought..

Moving to Petaluma -- bout 45 minutes north of the city and just about the only place in the Bay Area that wasn't leveled when the Big One rolled through in 1906.... so I'm hoping the good luck continues But yeah, for sure we'll have that INS.

As for a curio in the bedroom... never in a million years. But I am able to keep one plane in there -- a Fokker Red Baron -- 'bout 1:24 scale made out of wood. Why? Because the wife bought it for me for a birthday present when we were dating (Only wood model I have but it is beautiful... the wife ain't bad either )

Lessson learned: STop packing when you're too tired to think about what you're doing... a little while ago I broke the landing gear on my Corgi 1:32 Hartman because I forgot you had to press a button to retract it.

Ah well, it's one I'll never sell so I can live with it...

Hey Guys, packing and moving can be a real pain. But if you have to do it, it has to be done.

BTW, if you do have to sell some airplanes, Skydriver is in a buying mood...and my check's don't bounce (Ha Ha).

But serious, I don't envy anyone having to move. Here's hoping I can stay in my current home for the next 15-18 years until my little girls are in college.

Thank goodness many of the boxes are flat enough to fit under beds.

Re: when does collecting diecast airplanes s%@K!

Oh boy!
Should I have to move that would really !!!
My personal museum has about 150 1/48 models so far and I have about 98.5% of the boxes in my basement.

Moving these would probably require a semi.
