The Very Best Yet Made

Thids is not a contest or comparison or popularity question. It is based strictly on your eyes and hands and heart.

Quality-wise What is the BEST diecast model in you collection. I am interested in only 1. Not a list but if you insist you may. I really truly want your honest opinion even if the plane or model is not your favorite. I am talking about the best model you currently own.

As for over all quality not subject, the Carousel 1 Baracca Nieuport 11 Bebe is the best model I own.

Re: The Very Best Yet Made

I would have to say mine is the GA P-51B 'Ding Hao'.

Re: The Very Best Yet Made

Hmmm... my collection is fairly small, but for best overall quality I'd have to go with my Corgi floatplane Swordfish, if only for the rigging and semi-detailed pilots. The engine detail is pretty good, too. Generally, I'd vote for Dragon over Corgi for quality, but the Swordfish takes the cake.

Re: The Very Best Yet Made

Of all the planes I own or ever have (and that's a lot) the Carousel 1 Focke Wulf 190 Red 4 is the best. No doubt.
It's better than the Corgi Lanc, better than GMP. Just feels like a one of a kind, custom made piece.

Leigh-Mallory and his big wings! Might as well stay on the ground for all the use they are!

GMP P-40 Old Exterminator.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: The Very Best Yet Made

You all know I am a P40 fan but I have to say the Swordfish tops the lot. Blackfish is my personal Favourite of the bunch. It just shows what Corgi can do if they set their mind to it.

Carousel P40 comes second.

All this may change when my Gmp P40 arrives.

God Bless America.

Gotta go with C1 "Dora" Yellow 12 (see PappyB's pics on another thread)!

Re: The Very Best Yet Made

Boy Louie, you don't make it easy on a guy do you?

How does one differentiate the best from their favorite? I'm not sure I can, but I'll give it my best try.

Okay, I'm going to go with two recent pick ups that for me, capture the essence of the moment. This is what diecast is all about as far as I'm concerned. (Yes, sorry, I couldn't hold it to one plane.)

Number one is the Corgi Gladiator Finnish diorama. While the diorama is just okay, the Gladiator is superb. I think this is Corgi's best mould thus far and this particular livery is outstanding. (The Swordfish is right there with it, but I'm biased towards the Gladiator. I could just as easiely make an argument that the Swordfish is the best, but not today.)

With the addition of a couple of winter tanks on the base (FOV SU-122 and Dragon T-34) this little piece fires up the imagination and catches the eye. (Before any of you rivet counters get your hackles up and write me nasty emails, yes, I know the three pieces don't go together. I don't care, I like the way it looks. It's my world and I'm happy living in it! )

The other item I will put on this list is the Apollo Recovery Sea King that I recently picked up. I can practically hear the props and feel the wash as it hovers over the Apollo capsule just waiting for Armstrong, Collins and Aldrin to pop the hatch. While I don't know much about helicopters, this birds looks right and just feels right to me, for lack of a better term.

Anything for a weird life.
