Re: What Military Aircraft have you Flown on?

Do the two differ being different sides of the pond?

Flew on both in the late eighties/early nineties. First in an exercise, "Operation Bullseye/Crosscheck" which pitted aircrew from the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand in tactical airlift exercises. Basically who can drop a load closest to a target. In those days Canada flew the CC 130H The Brits flew the C130K C1 which had the refueling probe installed during the Falklands War. Internally, the most obvious difference to my eyes were the sheepskin seat covers the Brits used. Strapped in the back watching the loadmasters work I could not tell one Herc from another. If you have access to old magazines check Air Combat, October, 1989 for my report.
When I flew with the RAF Falcons, they were jumping from a C130K C3 which had the fuselage plugs to lengthen the aircraft. It still had the real bulky refueling probe. They were part of a team of RAF aircraft which was on a worldwide sales pitch to sell the Tornado and fly the flag in various countries. They were accompanied by a Tristar and three 29 squadron Tornados. The whole team appeared at a couple of airshows in the US. Again, if you can find Air Combat May 1992, you can read the story.
I have flown in several Canadian Hercs over the years all CC 130H. The most notable being 322 which later crashed on approach to CFS Alert NWT.
Not being a rivet counter, a Herc is a Herc, is a Herc, I'm afraid. Unless there are obvious external differences which just scream to be recognized.

My kick was being tethered with ramp down and a couple of cameras round my neck, shooting the action as it happened. The ride was cool but only the means to an end.

Hello Graham and welcome, my friend was a medic at Little Rissington, he had to sit at the end of the runway watching the RAF doing circuits and bumps.

Sadly on a couple of occasions his services were needed. I think this was around 1965 ish.

God Bless America.

Thumbs up Re: What Military Aircraft have you Flown on?

I'm looking forward and gonna have some fun doing some aerobatics in a Pitts competition biplane with a friend of mine who owns one down at Hollister, California.

Now that is something I have always desired to do just to see if I could handle the "G's"... That would be cool to do aerobatics.

Re: What Military Aircraft have you Flown on?

Now if we are talking about biplanes, well I did get to go up a couple of times in a WACO YMF-5. Wind screen, no canopy, great view.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.
