Re: What Military Aircraft have you Flown on?

Since I am so old, I have ridden on The Blueball Express, the Zephyr, Illinois Central to St. Louis, and a few Pensylvania RR steam engines in Chicago RR yards. That counts if this were a railroad forum, right?

But I have been in a DC-3, when it was a PBA flight, from Punta Gorda, Florida, to the northeast. That counts!

But the all-time excitement and heart-stopping pleasure was the $400 ride in Nine-O-Nine B-17 here in Fort Myers, the Collings Foundation plane. I want to ride in a Mustang, in Kissimee...someday....

"Arguably, the Mustang was the best [single-engine] fighter plane that ever flew...."

Re: What Military Aircraft have you Flown on?

Only thing I've flown that ever served is the Beech 18, otherwise known as the Beech Bugsmasher...glorious hack a generation of deskbound pilots. Also have done aerobatics in a Mudry Cap-10, which is used by the French Air Force for aerobatics training. However, I have shared a runway traffic pattern with P-3s and Coast Guard C-130s, and have had to dodge Blackhawks, OH-58 Kiowa Warriors and even an SH-60 Seahwak in various flights around the isles. I've also had the pleasure to watch F-15s come and go into the Honolulu International Traffic pattern.

Still looking forward to a flight in a P-51 (hey there Mustangdriver) and other WW2 types.

I wont count a Cessna 172/T-41 as that's just too basic a machine, though the USN did buy Piper Aztecs for the light utility role. Re: What Military Aircraft have you Flown on?

When I was a kid in Civil Air Patrol (CAP) I got to fly several CAP Cessnas on training flights. I also flew with my uncle -- a Huey pilot for the Army Reserve -- on four separate Huey flights. I also flew in a KC-135 and laid in the boom while the boom operator refueled F-16s. That was way cool. Later in the flight I sat at a waist window and waved at an F-16 pilot fliying near the starboard wing; he waved back. I can still picture that in my mind as clearly as if it was yesterday (and it must have been 25 years ago).
