Re: Fetish, anyone?

Sherman tanks !!! I've got so many of those and many of its variants to outfit a Tank Bn. The F-86 is the hands down all time favorite jet. Too many WW 2 birds to love just one.

She? you mean that beautiful blue two tone jet in the picture with Gort? Was there something else in the picture I missed?

Re: Fetish, anyone?

Not me: However, if you consider jim and his P 40's.............

Fetish!!!!!!!!!!! Does 20 plus P40s of various scales count as a fetish?
I stopped counting at 20 so I am not sure just how many of these hot little numbers I have. (oops did I say hot oh dear, Captain I think you have a good point))?
I have just bought a 21st Century 1/48 model of the P40N but its still in the box so I dont know how good that one is yet (plastic)!!!! Hmm.
Thanks to a very kind member of the forum ( many thanks ) I now have a GMP P40 winging its way over to my humble abode.

I think we all have favourites and its difficult to pin down why we each pick out any one in particular.
For me its a combination of admiration for the Curtiss design team, the pilots that flew the P40s and well I suppose the fact that as an aeroplane it never had the recognition it deserved. Consider the fact that it served in the toughest operational warzones of WW2 and had one of the best serviceabilty records of any combat plane and was put to all manner of tasks from recce to ground attack to fighter v fighter and even after sustaining severe combat damage it often managed to bring home its pilot safely.
I also must mention the late great Ray Hannah for showing just how good this aircraft really was. To see Ray put his P40 through its paces was something special and the memories of his superb piloting skills combined with the superlative performance at low level of this iconic aircraft will stay with me forever.

And well, IMHO its a beautifull plane.

God Bless America.

Re: Fetish, anyone?

Gort, I can see you being "fixated" on the Su-27 (nice looking jet for sure), but not the Witty rendition. It is not a very good likeness in the canopy area, I hope you've notices that. The Gaincorps are much better in that respect.

FVD

Methinks the accuracy standards my not be quite as high for those of us that did not fly for real and study the enemy as closely

Canopy differences and all, I dig my Witty Su-27 -- even after you pointed this out And gaincorp's canopy may be better but it's fit/finish, panel lines, etc., are not... ying-yang...

Looks like they are both too high maintenance for me. I'll pass...

You get what you pay for, Shawn

I don't have an aircraft fetish right now, but if someone were to make a decent 1:72 I-16, I can imagine myself owning a bunch of those.

Regards,

Sergey

Yeah, I go for overall shape accuracy before details, others prefer it the other way around. Matter of personal taste.

Although I think the detail on Gaincorp Su-27 is just fine.

I do command Witty for all their different liveries, I wish Gaincorps would follow suit. But anyway, I have a superb 1/48 scale plastic kit of a Su-27 (Academy) in my collection, so I'll stick to my 1/72 Gaincorp Su-33 and 34 in diecast, no need to buy Witty at least for now.
