Re: What kind of a Collector are you?

Same with me. If it's not 1/72 scale then I don't even consider buying it no matter how nice. I like things consistent - it's a teacher thing. Space and cost are primary concerns as well as the fact that all my plastic models were 1/72 scale.

Funny that, I was a high school teacher when I started my working career many years ago!

Have to say that I am probably going to get at least one 1:48 - I 'm thinking of the HM RNZAF Buffalo coming soon, which I'm sure no-one will ever produce in 1:72 .

Re: What kind of a Collector are you?

I was once all over the place, basically just going after models, then to 1/48 FM/A and 1/72 Matchbox Corgi. I also started a 1/100 Armour collection on the side. Since all the other new manufacturers came along, I've been predominantly 1/72 based. I also had a decent sized 1/32 collection. However, for the reasons I listed in my sale, I've decided to forswear the big scales and keep only a select number of 1/72s, and my Armour 1/100s, which are small enough to travel virtually anywhere. If I were to choose only one scale, I'd have to say 1/72, with 1/100 coming in a strong second. I've also begun to see the virtue of 1/1200-50 ships, of which I have begun a small fleet, these will also travel well.

Its too bad, because I really liked Corgi's 1/32 line, but then again, a decent size collection of those would definately take up a lot of space.

Re: What kind of a Collector are you?

Hello
I love the big 1/32 and 1/35 scale fighters. The Corgi 1/35 Spitfire is my most collected, but the GMP P40 is my all time favorite.

I also love the bombers in 1/72...... Lancasters, B17, B24, Heinkel 111.

I went off 1/72 scale fighters when there was little choise. I think we were stuck with Spitfire, Mustang and 109 for a long time. I swapped and sold a lot of mine and went for the bombers and 1/32. However, the 1/72 fighter range is now much more interesting and my 1/72 fighter collection is now bigger than ever.

1/144 is not a scale I like, but the B52 still looks good in it. I only have the 1/ 144 scale aircraft..... an unsung hero's B52.

I have no 1/48. I did have 8 Armour, but found they were very poor and sold them off. I am tempted by the carosel 1 stuff now.

Over 70% of my collection is 1:72, but 1:48 has been my fetish scale since I was a young plastic modeller, so it is number 2.

One noticable limitation however : because of space and price issues, I only buy single or twin engined planes in these scales.

Finally, I recently added some 1:200 stuff (WAC, Hogan, Herpa) to all that...

I also collect 1/43 and 1/50 armoured vehicles.

Once you're on this slippery slope Spinnaker there'll be no getting off - if you're going to do it right, start with a Carousel 1 FW190D (Red 4 or Yellow 10)

Re: What kind of a Collector are you?

Swore I’d collect nothing but 1/72. Built several huge collections.

Discovered 1/32. Went nutzo

Found 1/48. Grim prognosis.

Just purchased a bunch of 1/144 tanks and planes. The party never ends!

It is never too late to be what you might have been.

Re: What kind of a Collector are you?

I read with interest of all of you who are able to restrict yourselves to one scale. Bravo! I am far too weak to do that. My scale is predominantly (more than 65%) in 1/72, but I can't think who I'd give up if I were to get rid of some of my other scales.

Re: What kind of a Collector are you?

When I started out I was grabbing anything I could get my hands on in a frenzied fever.

Recently, In an effort to cut back on my vastly growing airforce and armored divisions, I'm sticking to 1:72. I like the consistancy of scale and being able to place my birds (And armor) next to one another in context.

I've picked up maybe 10-15 Corgi and 21st Century 1:32 and they are very pretty planes. I've got at least an equal number of 1:32 FOV armor. While I wouldn't rule out picking up a Corgi 1:32 if I found a great deal on a bird I really liked, it's all 1:72 now

Anything for a weird life.

Re: What kind of a Collector are you?

Hi Guys,
I collect 1/35th and 1/18th. Since I began collecting desktop display or travel agent style models,I stopped and began to carve my own. Fair weathered would be a good way to explain how I buy 1/18th and lately all I'm seeing are the Mig and some of the older German fighters. I do have some DragonWings P-51's but not to the extent of you all... 40% of my collection is general aviation mixed with airliners and EMS helicopters. Boeing makes acceptance flights into Spokane several times a week and a lot of my airliners reflect the 737 model. The other 40% of my collection are corperate and private propjet types. All hand carved from Northwest pine. Alph
