Best diecast deals ever? - Question

[Hopefully this is posted in the right section. "Good Deals" - seems more currently commercial deals. "Aircraft General" - not open enough for armor hobbyists. Admin/Mod - if this is in the wrong area, please move to more appropriate area - thanks.]

I asked a question similiar as this on the old hangar (the Ebay part) and the answers were pretty fun to read - but time has passed; the forum is new; and new/different members have registered. So I'll ask again in expanded form.

Please share the best diecast deals you have ever made:

Ebay or online auction? (buyer or seller)

Online dealer? (clearance, closeout, etc.)

Local "brick and mortar" store? (A lot of us - in the U.S. anyway - have the Tuesday Morning experiences here , so if there are others - please post.)

Personal trade or purchase? (friend, forum member, etc.)

Thanks in advance for sharing your story/deal.

Re: Best diecast deals ever? - Question

I got the Dragon CH Johann Huber Jagdpanzer IV L/70 for $28.00 + $5.00 shipping from a store in Hong Kong. I also bid and got the CH King Tiger, Ardennes, for $15.50 on ebay. I also got 5 Dragon Warbirds from an online store, on sale for ca. $12.00 each. Haven't seen them that low since.

Re: Best diecast deals ever? - Question

A friend of mine gave me a Lane Spitfire, after I had been looking for one forever. He also gave it to me at a time when the prices were already crazy high.

I got the "RO1" Minichamps Panther for $49 Off the Bay on a Buy it Now.

It only took me several years to find such a deal...

Post Re: Best diecast deals ever? - Question

A few years ago I did a couple of hours work for a friend helping him to turn an old out house into a store room for his small but growing diecast business (alas no more) the deal being he would fill me with beer at lunch time.
Returning from the pub we started unpacking the previous days Corgi deliveries & in one of the boxes was a selection of newly released planes one of which I felt I must have so thrusting the money into my friends hand I put the model to one side & went to freshen (sober) up before facing "she who must be obeyed.

Having a firm grip on my prized plane & a tenuous grip on my sobriety I waited for the bus to take me home, as I fumbled in my jacket pockets for change I found the money that I had given my friend for the plane.
Not only is my Corgi AA32802 Mossie my most prized & valuable piece of diecast it is so much more, it is a reminder of the halcyon Saturday mornings of a few years ago when diecast enthusiasts of all sorts(mostly truck collectors) would meet at the back of his shop to collect & show off their orders & drink endless cups of tea & consume bacon & fried egg rolls all paid for by friend Clive bless him, internet shopping seems such a sterile experience compared with those wonderful days.

Re: Best diecast deals ever? - Question

My best deal was around a year and 1/2 ago, from on online retailer that was going out of business. I ordered over $200 worth of diecast aircraft, got 70% off! I do not remember all of what I got, though ordered a total of 9 planes, mostly Corgi. Still have the receipt somewhere.
