Battle Of Kurk - 1943 Film Clip

Here's another piece of rare film footage which I stumbled across today. This clip is roughly ten minutes in length but very interesting. I am amazed by the rocket artillery barrages; sure would have hated being on the receiving end of one of those . Just check out the impact craters when the arial footage starts. Anyways, hope you enjoy!

Yup, I could have had that...............

Amazing. Not a German wreck to be seen. And nothing but dead and broken soviets. The Germans must've won that one. Didn't they?

Ain't propaganda a wonderful thing!

If they had that awesome band with them they might have won. I wonder where the Soviet version is?

Maybe still under lock & key until it is released on DVD by the BMG dvd club.

Thumbs up Re: Battle Of Kurk - 1943 Film Clip

Most interesting footage. Nice to see our Dragon models in action! I was thinking about how accurate the guns were then relative to the modern ones used on tanks today. particularly the Tiger for example.

WW II tanks basically could not hit a thing while moving. I seem to recall reading that an experienced Tiger gunner could hit with one shot out to about 1500 meters. Modern tanks are designed to hit a target accurately while maneuvering

and at much greater distances than that as well. A British Challenger1 MBT destroyed an Iraqi tank at 4000 metres in the first gulf war. I believe that is the record for the longest sucessful kill shot.

Ooops!

Ain't propaganda a wonderful thing!

Much like with Battle of the Bulge footage, the Germans have only shown opening stages of the Citadel from the Southern Flank as well as a little bit from the Center. Germans were drowning in their own blood from the nothern approach from the get go.

The biggest difference between Soviet and German propaganda movies is that the Soviets have ALWAYS shown their own dead as well as destroyed equipment. The main message was that victory is never free or easy, and the Motherland requires sacrifices. I believe in the 1970s the Americans have produced a 20-something part mini-series narrated by Burt Lancaster, called "Unknown War" dedicate to the Eastern Front. I wonder whether it has been released in the US in English as I defnitely remember seeing the Russian-language version.

Regards,

Sergey

Re: Battle Of Kurk - 1943 Film Clip

I don't recall hearing the Germans had stabalized guns in WW2. I'm sure some gunners could pull it off once in a while, but always and under fire? Germans were good, but hardly Supermen.
