Re: Battle Of Kurk - 1943 Film Clip

Germans were good, but hardly Supermen.

Now you've made Dragon boss cry, I see more Maus' and Jagdtigers coming our way.

German optics circa WWII was outstanding. I've read somewhere that during fighting for Budapest, one of the Su-100 platoon commanders swapped optics from knocked out King Tiger. He killed two Stugs and one Jagdpanzer from 1,500m the next day, not on the move of course.

Throughout the war, Soviets tried to copy the German optics, but for some reason couldn't achieve equivalent results.

Regards,

Sergey

I don't recall hearing the Germans had stabalized guns in WW2. I'm sure some gunners could pull it off once in a while, but always and under fire? Germans were good, but hardly Supermen.

I don't know if you were responding to my post but I meant that the German gunners could hit that well while the tank was not moving.

Re: Battle Of Kurk - 1943 Film Clip

The funny thing about this clip is how the german narrator is touting Kursk as a great victory for the forces of Nazi Germany. I was pretty sure they lost that one...

The same way U.S. press said the Tet Offensive was a great victory for the Viet Cong.

The same way U.S. press said the Tet Offensive was a great victory for the Viet Cong.

Well, at least the Viet Cong "victory" during Tet had some staying power (and acted as prelude to the Communist "victory" we all witness today) ... i.e., though both were little more than conventional-wisdom chimeras, they had a long shelf life. The German "victory" at Kursk lasted all of, what, two days? (I exaggerate.)

We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives.
