Thumbs up Han Ulrich Rudel (Stuka Ace) - Video

Was surfing the net and found this really neat film clip of Rudel using the Stuka with 37mm cannon to engage Russian target. I always wondered how much carnage the 37mm gun would create, now I know. "Holly Cow", those guns are NASTY; I felt bad for those Ruski's in the landing crafts . As a matter of fact just take one of your 1:72 scale tanks and put it next to a 1:72 scale Tank Buster Stuka, the 37mm guns are huge.

No wonder Rudel had destroyed 150 various artillery pieces, 519 tanks, around 1000 various vehicles, 70 landing crafts, 2 Lavochkin La-3 fighters, Il-2 Stormovik and sunk the Battleship "Marat", 2 Cruisers and a Destroyer. Those figures are to say the least - "Impressive".

Yup, I could have had that...............

That was the first time i saw that clip...Didn't that only have like 12 rounds in each gun ? He sure did make his shots count...
Thanks for posting it.
By the way...That model is sweet.

Yup, only twelve rounds but what havoc those twelve unleashed. I too would like to see the same guns in use against Armour, let's see what I can dig up.

Just for giggles; imagine if the Germans had gained air supremacy in France during D-Day and called in Tank Busting Stuka's to hit the ships and beaches. It would have been very ugly and could have changed history as we know it .

So true and a chilling insight, no giggles about it. Nice video find, by the way. I read Rudel's biography in the late 60s and it reads much like Bader.

Hmmmn, Rudel & Co would have been 'minced' by Allied A.A. .Fighters aside..........

If they can hit (poor) George Preddy flying a P.51, then a Jumo engined Stuka would be mincemeat, at 3 or 4 times less the speed

Also, remember that WW.II 's most decorated (Rudel) WAS shot down on over 30 occasions (YES, over 30, I believe it's 31 or 32 all told, but don't quote me on it...... majoritively by Russian A.A. fire

He also flew FW.190 D.9's late on

I picked up his 'book' biography (whatever) some time ago, in a local secondhand bookstore - the style is typical of early 1950's reminiciences
(Great bit, taxying along a road, for miles in the fog !!!!!!!)

There is some good, clear footage (around) of him, at wars end, with others, hanging around, then boarding an RAF Dakota (awkwardly, with his missing foot)
I believe Von Rundstdet is in the footage & boards the RAF 'Dak' also
