Garmin GPS

Hey everyone, I just ordered the Garmin 2720 Street pilot GPS. Does anyone have one of these, and if so do you like it? Thanks

Re: Garmin GPS

Don't have that model but I bought a GPS unit for my wife on Black Friday. It was about $150 and has been worth every penny. Went used car shopping at several individual homes, punched in the addresses as we finished one and took us to the next without any problems. Did the same visiting colleges this week for my daughter and traveled without a hitch. Wife cannot read a map and now feels confident enough to travel anywhere by herself.

Re: Garmin GPS

I have the Garmin Nuvi 360, which is essentially the same thing except the case is slim (designed for travellers) but I believe the interface is about the same. I love it and think Garmin has just about the best GPS systems on the market.

Check your state law, however. California passed a law making it illegal to attach things on your windshield with suction cups and similar devices so now you have to mount the unit on your dash or lower.

Re: Garmin GPS

What in the world is the reason for that law?

Our lawmakers here in Maryland find it perfectly acceptable for a driver to have a cell phone in one hand and a cup of coffee or whatever in the other and turn their SUV eco-friendly land yacht with their knees.

Couldn't tell you for sure but I would guess the idea is to avoid obstructions in the field of view through the windshield.

The law prohibiting cell phone use except with a hands-free device (like a speaker or earpiece) takes effect here next year, I believe.

Oh, by the way, there is also an effort to prohibit issuing driver's licenses until age 18.

Re: Garmin GPS

I think people should actually KNOW how to drive before they get a licence!
