Train breaks 357.2 mph

My GOD!
Why would you want to go that fast? Japan has one faster at 507 kilometers per hour! Shoot that would never happen in the US as BNSF has a hard enough time keeping their 60 mile per hour trains on the tracks! Geez if you hit a COW going that fast your probably ground chuck yourself.Alph

Cool Re: Train breaks 357.2 mph

Totally wicked. Saw it on Sky News. Awesome stuff! I'd suggest you checkout the Sky News web site - British outfit.

I think they're referring to the French TGV (I've been on one once and it's definitely built for speed and not necessarily for comfort) .

Cool Re: Train breaks 357.2 mph

It was a specially modified TGV built to break the train speed record. Wicked, that thing was kicking up dust as it blasted down the track. Seen them in action while drifting through France. Haven't been on one though. Closest I got to a fast train was from Stockholm to Malmoa in Scandinavia (something 2000) and that was about 200km/h. Pretty cool passing cars on the freeway!

Re: Train breaks 357.2 mph

It was part marketing to potential customers, and part to test out the infrastructure on a new high speed line. They zapped up the voltage in the wires to help the train along.

I've been on the Japanese bullet, the TGV, and the Eurostar. Going that fast that close to the ground is pretty cool. The world is blurring by at an incredible rate.

Ooops!

Re: Train breaks 357.2 mph

For some DUMB reason they shipped the Talgo from Spain over to Seattle a few years ago. As I stated our trackage in the US is deplorable with all the heavy TV's and Cars moving east and west. I see BOEING 737's on special made cars too! Myself I think getting around the UK fast would be COOL but not here!!Alph

What a magnificent beast this train is but with the current state of track maintainance in the UK 30mph is too much.
