Tuskegee Airmen--New data regarding their escort missions

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16227836/
http://montgomeryadvertiser.com/apps...703310337/1001

It appears the recent metal awards has sparked an interest in their escort record. As you can see from the links I have provided, the Montgomery Advertiser is reporting at least 25 bombers were lost while being excorted by the Tusk. Airmen. These stories have been confirmed by William Holton the national historian for Tuskegee Airmen Inc.

Why after all this time is the TRUTH finally being told?? A quote from the MSN article "Some surviving members of the fighter group have said they were offended by the research and questioned the findings coming out more than 60 years after the end of World War II."

Thoughts??

Re: Tuskegee Airmen--New data regarding their escort missions

Well heck... we are led to believe one thing all these years and now they tell us a different story.
Makes one wonder what's going on after all these years. It's not nice to be lied too.
Now it's 25 bombers....After all these years none of the survivors of these bombers came forward until now.....

I say screw that. Now is not the time to be questioning these men's honor. I would rather see the people just say thank you and move along. They will have years to debate this after the vets are gone. I think that idiots like to think stuff up just for a story. To quote one of the best speeches ever,"I decline to explain myself to someone who sleeps beneath the very freedom I provide, and then questions the way in which I provide it."

Re: Tuskegee Airmen--New data regarding their escort missions

This has been debated in other threads, but I'll repitch my $.02 here.

Telling what really happened should be the job of any historian. And whether the Tuskegee Airmen lost any bombers or not during escort missions has absolutely no impact on the fact that they deserve our respect.

Flexibility is the key to airpower.
Indecision is therefore the key to Airpower.

Never run away from the truth. I'm sure that the Tuskegee Airmen would be the first to agree.

Actually just the opposite, some of the fighter group is offended. What I want to know is why is this important?

Re: Tuskegee Airmen--New data regarding their escort missions

How important this particular fact [be it one way or another] will depend on the judgment of each individual. The importance of basing our history on facts instead of legends is important. This may be a small rock but it is on a slippery slope with regard to the bigger issue. History should report facts, not what we wish the facts to be.

Re: Tuskegee Airmen--New data regarding their escort missions

Sorry if this is a repeated thread

I believe we are entitled to the truth. Does the 25 bomber tarnish their achievements-a thousand times no!

Re: Tuskegee Airmen--New data regarding their escort missions

But the governments of our countries don't mind doing that when it is protecting thier butt. When TWA Flight 800 went down, the government didn't let the facts get in the way of saying that it was a center fuel tank explosion. Even though they don't have one shred of evidence. So history is importatn only in certain lights, why strip these guys of some of their accomplishments?
