Re: Nice Things to Talk About

Our leaders are more fun too!

Wouldn't you just love to smoke a stogie with Bill...or have a spelling bee with Quayle...or do the hokie pokie on Ellen with Obama...?

...and it would have been really neato to bake Keebler cookies with Dennis Kucinich (who has an astonishingly HOT wife BTW)

Don't do what BDE tells you to do. Do what BDE would want you to do.

Re: Nice Things to Talk About

Is Ed Grimley, Skunky's doppel-ganger, in the Primaries as a candidate ?

I must say that the elderly geezer who seems to be in the lead as the Republican Nominee is far more entertaining than O-Bummer and Hillarious.

When the Democratic contenders make their pitch, they sound as if they are addressing the brain-dead. At least the Old Geezer sounds as if he is addressing human beings.

Have people in the Republican and Democratic parties exchanged brains? Micro-chips? Precious Bodily Fluids?

The whole process seems such a mystery to all the people outside the USA................

And this is what I intend to do to the voters of America for the next four years !

Not too far off the mark

The whole process seems such a mystery to all the people outside the USA................

not just to people outside the USA

BTW, MoMo, that's a photo of Screamin' Howard Dean, candidate from the 2004 campaign.

Re: Nice Things to Talk About

Americas political system still remains a mystery to me.

I have the impression that at local level the US system works really well and people get to have direct input to the lawmaking process. However when it comes to electing a President, and I say this as an outsider, it baffles the heck out of me!

The system must work because the USA seems to be doing just fine to me.

God Bless America.

Re: Nice Things to Talk About

Talking of doing fine, Jim, I said it ages ago ( on a now defunct/deleted thread which shall remain nameless ) that when that Blair creature packed it in, he would get his reward from Wall Street for sending our boys off to Iraq to die for Bush's pals !

Oh, I see the news today, oh boy,
Tony Blair has his nose in the trough.
Goldman Sachs is paying him $1,000,000,
To act as a consultant.

( sorry, John )

I hope that he plans to donate the money to the relatives of the dead and to the maimed and crippled soldiers of our army ! Some more could be donated to innocent Iraqi families who died for ....what ?

Re: Nice Things to Talk About

jim, the electoral college system frustrates many of us Yanks.

The election of the President and V.P. of the United States is indirect. Presidential electors are selected on a state by state basis as determined by the laws of each state. Currently each state uses the popular vote on Election Day to appoint electors. Although ballots list the names of the presidential candidates, voters within the 50 states and the Dist. of Columbia are actually choosing Electors from their state when they vote for President and Vice President. These Presidential Electors in turn cast the official (electoral) votes for those two offices. Although the nationwide popular vote is calculated by official and media organizations, it does not determine the winner of the election.

Jim, the Electoral College is necessary. Believe it or not, it actually gives MORE of a voice to individual voters.
The intent of the EC is to make sure that people in the rural and suburban areas have a voice in who gets elected. It is to prevent a candidate from winning a state just because he or she won the votes in just a few cities.
It helps ensure that there is indeed representation in our representative republic!
