Re: Nice Things to Talk About

He was on leave, was very upset about Margaret having left him and marrying someone else. He went absolutely crazy, and was admitted to a psychiatric hospital (if I remember correctly), and than was sent home to the US of A.

Almost got it.....

He returned stateside, then was promoted to Lt. Col. (must have been in the Air Force ).

Oh, yea, I forgot about that part. I'm sure Mustangdriver can give us the entire scenario!

Re: Nice Things to Talk About

Thanks Guys,

It's so long ago, and so many episodes have passed under the bridge!

When i watch MASH now, it's almost like seeing it for the first time.

Re: Nice Things to Talk About

I looked up a poll on the MASH fan site and from a poll of a quarter of a million viewers 74% prefered Radar over Klinger as Company Clerk!
Why did they let him go?????

Charles discovered him in the supply tent playing 'doctor' with Rizzo...This was, of course, before the days of "don't ask, don't tell". He was dishonorably discharged and returned home to Ottumwa where he became a hairdresser and performed in local dinner theater. Sadly, he died in 1989 due to complications from HIV...

Re: Nice Things to Talk About

Rumor has it that the goings on in the supply tent also involved a little black and white furry critter....

Tophat

That was Skunky's stunt-double! ( after he got his big break in the early black and white British movie, " I Was Monty's Double " ! )

Re: Nice Things to Talk About

Are you sure about that?

I'd heard that he is quite proud of the fact he does his own stunts....

Re: Nice Things to Talk About

MoMo,
Hey there.

At the risk of injecting something serious into the thread, and being banned for life.

From Gary Burgoff's web site.

He wanted to spend more time with his family and in an interview in The Complete Book of M*A*S*H he discusses how he suffered from burnout. The strict scheduling required while in the series was difficult. After the third season, Gary was in fewer episodes each season due to the effect it was having on his family life. He also felt he had learned all he could from being in the series and didn't want to stay just for the money. Gary has always been grateful of his years on M*A*S*H. He achieved his goal of becoming an actor and got much recognition. After leaving M*A*S*H, he turned down several sitcoms, including a part on Newhart. However, he did return for two episodes of AfterMASH, reprising his still popular role as Radar; he also did a pilot for W*A*L*T*E*R in which his character becomes a police officer.

Anything for a weird life.

Re: Nice Things to Talk About

Berghoff's burnout started during Season 4 and continued until his departure.

Here's a bit of trivia... Jamie Farr served in the U.S. Army in Korea after the Korean War. The dogtags Farr wears on the show are really his.
