Re: Nice Things to Talk About

In my opinion, John McCain has a reasonably good chance of becoming the next President of the US. I'm also wondering who he may consider as his potential 'Veep' - any ideas?

Preferably someone more conservative that HE is! Younger too, but I believe that goes without saying.

Political analysts on National Public Radio, today, gave their short list... mostly governors of states (and I cannot remember any of them). But there was a story circulating here in Utah that governor John Huntsman is also on the short list. He endorsed McCain last year.

Re: Nice Things to Talk About

I put some money on Shawn! Why are all former Presidents also officers? Why not put a retired NCO in the White House?

I'd do it. Would love to do it! But yea why no NCOs?? Every Officer needs a good NCO.

NCOs are the backbone and glue that holds an army together - most important rank is that of Sergeant!

Talking Re: Nice Things to Talk About

And now for something completely bizzare :

The Iranian Football association has invited Scotland to play them in Teheran in a friendly match. Should we go? That's today's big question.

I think that it would be ok if we could get some advice on how to deal with suicide bombers who invade the pitch.

On another note : the Gov here has announced that they are to proceed with the first stage in their plan to introduce Identity Cards to the U.K. First to have them will be foreign nationals who live outside the European Union ( as if that will help to deter terrorists ! ). Second call will be upon students ( who will find it hard to apply for a student loan unless they have one ).

By 2010 they should start in on the general public. This will begin as a voluntary decision on the part of the individual. I imagine that soon after that, the Gov will start acting the heavy and make it mandatory for everyone to have one.

But, I ask, will it do any good in the fight against terrorism? I can't make my mind up about this one. On one hand it would be good to know who exactly is here. On the other hand, many people are see the move as an imposition, as well as being an infringement of their civil liberties.

There are good, solid arguments on both sides.

This one will run for a long time.

Talking Re: Nice Things to Talk About

Yes, we know that we've seen them before. Ever since the 1930s inventors have been coming up with those " crazy ideas " about flying cars. But, check this one out.

I want one !

The 200mph flying car

If you've always wanted to live out your inner James Bond, you might like to get your name down for one of these.
It's called the AirCar and, as the name suggests, is both a car and a plane that has the potential to fly at speeds of 200mph and at an altitude of 25,000 feet.

Just like the flying AMC Matador in the Man With the Golden Gun, in which the villainous Scaramanga escapes from Bond, the AirCar has wings that fold out at the touch of a button - handy if you see a traffic jam building ahead or you're running late for work. In normal use, these wings tuck up beside the car to allow it to drive on public roads, while the interior has full instrumentation for air and road use. You can take along passengers, too, as the AirCar has four doors and five seats. Power comes from two propeller engines that produce up to 296bhp, while a conventional engine for road use produces 39bhp and gives it a ground speed of 85mph.

The AirCar is designed by Milner Motors, who reckon the prototype you see here could be ready in production form by 2010, at a cost of $450,000 - about £250k. It will also be shown at the New York Motor Show in two weeks' time.

I wonder if your government expects the criminal element to get a legal I.D. card, kinda like our government expects our society's criminal element to abide by the existing gun laws?
