Talking Re: Nice Things to Talk About

Well, the Pirates' ships are sunk, and so are we. I guess that we'll have to go back to our old avatars and put our collective feet up. Washed up; on the beach. That's what happens to old sailors who have sailed the seven seas for years looking for plunder and adventure.

Pirates' Clique.

R.I.P.

Now, moving swiftly along, we have to look for a job for Harry, now that he's back in the U.K. I had a word with his grannie, last night, and she's agreed that he'd be better off remaining far from the clutches, and bad influence, of his dad. McDonalds have shown an interest, an we think that we can get him fixed up in a nice little outlet near Scunthorpe ( joke which only Brits will appreciate ) . I would be obliged if, in the future, you have any burger or fries requirements, you direct them to the lad, and help him on his way.

Honi soit qui mal e pense

Re: Nice Things to Talk About

What axe do you have to grind on that kid, he deployed. He did his bit for Queen and Country. Which is alot more than most of his countrymen have done at his age past or present. If there is anything to be upset about, its that his father is a complete idiot who remarried the ugliest woman on that island.

Wrong! Obviously, you've never been to the Isle of Dogs! ( or Scunthorpe )

.................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ........

Yes, yes, yes, we all know that he did his bit for Grannie and Country. Good luck to him. But I don't think that popping off 50.cal rounds at who knows what, while being filmed on your own video by one of the Ghurkas is exactly laying your life on the line. He drew no counter-fire. This suggests that there was no one out there.

You don't understand the way that things work here. It's been a 1,000 year Spin City for these people who live off the fat of the land. They will do anything...and I mean anything....for positive publicity.

While Harry was out there ( for 10 weeks....what a stint ! ) he was trailed round by a fully-embedded BBC film team which recorded every heroic moment for posterity. This is not a young man who seeks anonimity, but the active Royal publicity machine in operation. It was the Harry Show, in full flight.

I do care about every one of our lads out there, including Harry. However, I do question the validity of our involvement in a struggle which seems largely pointless to me.

And let's not forget that the Government and the Army were all pitching in to get some support from the folks back home through the exploitation of all this media three-ringed circus.

Re: Nice Things to Talk About

Once you've been stationed in Europe its not so scary anymore. 99 Luft Ballons anyone?

Shawn, thats cruel,

I have been trying to wipe the memory of that song ever since I first heard it.

Now you brought it all back and I cannot stop that silly tune running around in my head again.

aaargh.

The M2 .50 cal MG has a MAX RANGE of 6,800m, EFFECTIVE RANGES for area targets 1,830m / point target 1,500m. So he was well outside the maximum range of even the best Afghani shooting (AK-47 max effective range 400m) at him. Hence no counterfire. Ya gotta love the M2.
As for being filmed, heck its all the rage by just about everyone deployed these days. So darn him for being like most eveyone else. I'd bet even money that had the technology been there in WW2, we would be seeing the same thing from our grandfathers. Its no big deal.

You don't understand the way that things work here. It's been a 1,000 year Spin City for these people who live off the fat of the land. They will do anything...and I mean anything....for positive publicity.

Perhaps, but I'll give it to him for being there boots on the ground and not overhead flying or off the coast sailing.

10 weeks is still longer than some folks have ever put in!

I do care about every one of our lads out there, including Harry. However, I do question the validity of our involvement in a struggle which seems largely pointless to me.

I bet they said the same thing when the BEF left for France.

And let's not forget that the Government and the Army were all pitching in to get some support from the folks back home through the exploitation of all this media three-ringed circus.

Does this generation not deserve the full support that their fore bearers received? Or is more popular to blame them for what they do. The 60s really weren't that great were they? You don't like the war do something about it, you voted those folks in that sent them off to fight. Start there.
