Re: Nice Things to Talk About

I see tha the Prince harry thread has been flamed-out ! Darn, just when I was about to reveal that it isn't really Harry at all, but a Kagamusha ( impostor meant to deceive the enemy ) instead !

Yes Folks, it wasn't Skunky at all ( that was just a clever piece of disinformation ) it was really........ Wait! What's that noise ? Who's there ?

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhh !

It's, it's.....gargle, gargle, thud !

Re: Nice Things to Talk About

Now that pirates abound, you've gotta read " Treasure Island " by Robert Louis Stevenson, the original " Pirate Story " !

Personally, I prefer " Kidnapped ", but that's another story. ( get it? 'another story' ? )

You guys are just too damned slow.

Two very fine books that got my imagination and wander-lust going. Still have the copy of 'Treasure Island'. (I think my Brother may have absconded with the other -- hmmmm.)

Shawn

Shawn, I hate to disappoint you but, by all surviving accounts, they were ugly psychopaths who escaped hanging by dint of being pregnant. Their male admirers did not !

Then you will want a copy of "Under the Black Flag". Ace historical book on actual pirate life in the 17th and 18th century. Extremely well written. I just finished it and give it an: AA+++

(Oh yeah, you'll want this, all right!!)

Re: Nice Things to Talk About

.........or " Life Among the Pirates ", the Romance and the Reality, by David Cordingly. This is a very good general history of the pirates. Well written and well researched too.

I read it when I was off work, and it's an easy book to chill out with.

They were much more blood-thirsty than the guys they hung out with. They shouted for the captives to be killed whenever their their small pirate craft took a prize in order that there be no witnesses.

I think that you will find that they are called Biker Chicks today !

Re: Nice Things to Talk About

Who cares what they looked like, apparently they kicked tail or we wouldn't be discussing them now. As for knocking off witnesses, sounds like the SOP of the day to me. Let me guess there were gentleman pirates that cast them adrift offshore so that they'd survive. Are we gonna debate good vs bad, bad guys now?
