RSMs and Colors I've found can be a handful. Somehow I've never managed to get on the bad side of either. But I live for the day when I retire and can tell people where to go.

Stand up straight , keep yer mouth shut and do as your told instantly and without question seems to be the best way to keep out of trouble, O and never but never volunteer.

Maybe I'm just lucky. But most seem human when not around thier own. Of cousre I do show proper respect, but hardly standing with a board up my backside. Even the visiting Officers / NCOs we have here seem to have relaxed alittle.

Yes, Jim's absolutely correct. British Army sargents scare the ........... out of underlings, and form the backbone of the army. They have to be tough, and ready to demonstrate every aspect of the job at a moment's notice.

For a reasonable stereotype watch the R.S.M. in " Ice Cold in Alex " or the Colour Sergent in " Zulu ".
