Re: Nice Things to Talk About

While I am not walking silly due to battle damage, or airborne jumps, I am shorter after my Iraq tour. And I doubt I will get taller.

I was trying to play on the Monty Python sketches first the silly walks and then trying to refer to the parade ground sketch that had the soldiers doing some crazy moves.

Its your avatar that set me off.

Hilarious stuff.

Re: Nice Things to Talk About

I love the RSM who gives the lads reasons not to walk up and down the parade field twenty five times. Then does it by himself.

Shawn, RSMs have awesome powers.

I was visiting RAF Topcliffe a few years ago, It was co-used by a few civilian organisations with permission of the Ministry of defence.
I was strolling across the parade ground when this voice BOOMED out , WERE JA THINK YOUR GOING?

I turned around and there stood an RSM.

I am going over to the hanger sir, (wait a minute , why am I calling him sir, I'm not in the army).

COME HERE,

Crikey, er YES SIR, and would you believe it I "marched" over to him.
I stood in front of him and although I am just over 6 foot tall him managed to make me feel about 1 foot high.

NOW WHERE DID YOU SAY YOU WERE GOING?
I am going over to the hanger sir.
AND WHY WOULD "YOU" WANT TO BE DOING THAT he said giving me the evil eye from under his cap peak.
I have been sent to pick up some gear sir, said I shrinking further by the minute.

CARRY ON!

All I could muster was a very meek "yes sir" and off I went.

When I got to the hanger I thought to myself, just a minute why did I just jump when he shouted, I could have told him to B.gg.r off, I'm not in the army.
I told the civilian in charge and he said, its a bl..dy good job you did, you dont argue with those guys.
He would have had your guts for garters if you showed even the slightest disrespect.

Its funny but those men seem to have a way of demanding instant obedience and respect.
It was a strange experience and one that always makes me laugh when I think about it.
Heck even Lorraine can't get me to jump that quick!

I must also add that I have never seen anyone as smartly , immaculately dressed as that RSM,
I can see why they say that RSMs are the backbone of the army.

God Bless America.
