Re: Nice Things to Talk About

Do skunks eat wasps?

I get a ton of those buggers all the time too.Wife hates them.I told her don't bother them and they won't bother her.She bends over to pull a weed out of the ground and of course, on that weed happens to rest a wasp. Her hand expands to twice its normal size and she's sick as a dog for a week.Wife hates wasps.Wife hates me.

You chaps have got it all wrong. Now listen to JIM.
Lesson one, flowers need nurturing feeding and lots of TLC all through the summer. Many many wasted hours are spent in this futile pursuit.

Lesson two, Pull the Bl...y things out and leave the weeds alone, they thrive all on their own without any help.
They never let you down ,every year they pop up in the garden yes they come free of charge and need no attention of any sort.

Lesson three and the most important one of all is this, at the begining of every year (it only takes 5 minutes) throw copious amounts of fertilizer all over garden and lo and behold the little beauties will grow so high that the average sized husband can take his garden chair out into the middle of this lush growth and be completly unobservable by the average sized wife.
Many happy hours of dreamy solitude can thus be enjoyed away from the wife kids etc. (indeed with any luck the kids may wander in there and never be found again).

God Bless America.

I keep telling Babs (partner) that weeds are just flowers that grow in the wrong place, left to my own devices in the garden I just mow what ever comes up

Re: Nice Things to Talk About

Skunky, sorry to hear of your wifes dilemma. This isn't a surefire way of ridding yourself of the buggers, but here is a way to exact revenge. Get a large bowl, coat the inside with honey or jam 1 inch from the rim, fill with water to that mark and place it at the furthest spot away in your garden. Their coats may look like life jackets, but when they fall in your wee pool, they don't work too well.

Thanks, Swoop,

Both Mrs Skunky and I will be doing a war-dance round the wee buggers as they expire! I'll be taunting them by tossing Polo Mints into the bowl which they will mistakenly take for lifebuoys.

Sink you evil spawn of satan!

MoMo

Re: Nice Things to Talk About

I have one tool I use regularly for gardening. It's called "Roundup" - dunno if you have it in your parts of the world? It's a very effective spray which kills weeds quickly and efficiently. It also kills the other plants as well, avoiding the necessity for gardening altogether .
