Talking New SIM! IL2 Sturmovik 1946

I saw this on sale in this week's Circuit City add for only $19.99. I have the original and this new version, which just shipped to the US on March 13, appears to be a must have for me. Check out the info at UbiSoft

Does anyone know, or have played with, this version?

Re: New SIM! IL2 Sturmovik 1946

Do you play flight sims online or off? I have recently begun playing Warbirds2006. I haven't ever flown with full realism, so there is a pretty steep learning curve for me, but I love it.

I bought this Sunday at Circuit City - what a find! Too bad when I got it home I discovered that my PC has a worthless graphics card and I can't run it! I think that I can get a GeForce FX series for $40-50 but really don't have a clue what is good or not. Any experts out there?

Yes, I have IL-2 1946. It is quite awesome. Many points for style!

Don't bother complaining about the Italy map. That's the dead horse issue of the sim.

The only time I have played an online sim was when I got a free month of play on the old Microsoft "Aces High" (I believe that's what it was called) web site. Other than that I've had to play offline.

Glad to know this game is worth a look. I'll be dropping in to my local Circuit CIty tomorrow.

Thanks for the Circuit City heads up. I was getting ready to buy it through Amazon but I know where I'll be going at lunch today.

Hard to say without knowing more about your PC config -- post it or PM it to me and I can help you out. Been gaming for quite a while and am familiar with a wide range of cards... The Geforce 7600GT is a great choice right now for a "budget" card -- I think they're right around $100 now, (check out www.pricegrabber.com). These cards give you serious gaming "bang for the buck" and can be used in an SLI configuration. Personally, I wouldn't go less than this card for this sim, but I am a bit nuttier than your average gamer

EVGA and XFX are generally good brands to consider...

Re: New SIM! IL2 Sturmovik 1946

Well I just schuttled out to CC and bought my copy today. One of only two they had in stock. Either they didn't stock many to begin with or it's popular. I've only read the case but the planes that are available to fly look awesome.

Bonus!! No copy protection on the DVDs and you don't even need the disc in the drive to play once it's installed.
