Re: Memphis Belle

Well thanks Tophat! Well to be honest they both got it wrong, but I think the Corgi version is a little closer to correct(but not much as the pin up is painted over a window on the model). Franklin Mint however should not be to blame since they went down to memphis when the plane was still there(It is now in the NMUSAF), and used the real thing as the reference, only at that time the real thing was not painted right. The base color green should be darker than the FM but lighter that the Corgi. Small piece of trivia, part of the film was lost when they filmed the documentary, so part of it was reshot flying over California! THe last scene when everyone was waiting on the Belles is also funny, as Robert Morgan said that they made him circle out there forever, before letting him come in to land. He said I figured since everyone else was down, I might as well buzz the field.

You are the "go to" man when it comes to questions re: the accuracy of vintage AF birds. I went to law school in Ohio and spent many a weekend at Wright-Pat drooling over the collection. You guys do top notch resto work!

Re: Memphis Belle

Thank you. When the Belle is done, she will be the finest restored B-17, hands down.

Re: Memphis Belle

She will be pretty much original. The only new sheet metal is going to be a few small pieces around the ball turret and rear belly area.
