Re: Memphis Belle

Here is where the trouble lays. I know several people that went in to the Tallichet B-17 and said, I was in the memphis belle. Well they were not. That B-17 is advertised as "Come see the memphis belle." Now we are going to have the real Memphis Belle on display, and the USAF thinks that a greater distinction needs made. I don't blame them. They aren't trying to stop people from learning of the plane, just making money off of it.

Re: Memphis Belle

They said all together that the restoration will take 7-10 years. There is almost 2 years down on it already. hard to believe.

So here we are, Post No 31 (quotes from above), & 'the penny finally drops' for H.C.H. ...................

(& anyone else on planet earth, NOT aware of Tallichet's current colour-scheme for HIS Boeing B.17).

Y'see, ALL ALONG, I thought you were referring to the B.17 that I'd listed in some detail (in Post #No 13)....also flying around as........

(the) "Memphis Belle"

So now that just makes THREE of 'em........ (as in THREE of, "Memphis Belle" ).

Wowee, They're breeding - just like "Elvis" look-alike's......... (Ah-huh-huh ).

Re: Memphis Belle

That is funny! Sally B at least does not advertise as the Memohis Belle even though it has the nose art on the one side. Which is kind of odd. I know it was in the movie, but what ever. David's B-17 is sometimes advertised as the Belle here at airshows.

Wowee, They're breeding . . . .

Well, she is an attractive lass, at least from the 3/4 view.

Mustangdriver - Are the green splotches present on the FM version of the Belle correct? If so, are they an attempt at camo or just oddly colored patches due to repairs?

And since I'm bending your ear, what's the story behind the red dress and the blue dress? And shouldn't the red dress be to port?

Re: Memphis Belle

I really think the Corgi 1:72nd Memphis Belle is more correct then the FM one.
Color wise of the camo patches anyway.

Re: Memphis Belle

The green splotches on the Belle are correct. When she rolled off of the assembly line, she was just O.D. over gray. When she go to Bassingbourn, the USAAF put out a bulletin that stated it was up to the group C.O as too whether or not to add the green splotches to the camo. Col Stan Ray of the 91st BG decided that his group would indeed have the green camo. Thus the Belle will carry that same color scheme, although when she was restored in the 90's they used the wrong shades. They were close, but not exact. As for the dress, she was supposed to have blue dresses and main wheel covers on both sides, but they ran out of blue paint, and used red for one side of the dress and main wheel cover.

Re: Memphis Belle

What can I say . . . MD, you da man!

I always wondered why the two colors. I'm kinda dissapointed it was just due to low paint stores.
