Re: Talk about bad luck!

That dude is seriously hardcore. He had insurance, who insures a model airplane? Should we get diecast insurance? If we lose our wife over diecast, we get a certificate for a mail order replacement?

Re: Talk about bad luck!

Well at least it got rid of his wife before it crashed. So it wasn't a total loss.

Re: Talk about bad luck!

Did he at least crash the plane into his wife? Or his ex-plane into his ex-wife?

Re: Talk about bad luck!

That is just so tragic. I could weep for him. ER the plane that is not the wife.

It reminds me , my friend goes to all the airshows with his wife. She has no interest at all in aviation. She takes her fold down chair windbreak and flask of tea. Sets herself up all cosy on the grass and knits away all day . She talks to other ladies and generally has a great day while my friend enjoys the show. Now thats how to do it ladies!

djjffhll - you live in the the land of the "brave & the free", dontcha ????????

Over here in the 'Mother Country', things are just a tad different..........

re; your top (highlighted quote)..........

This came about as Law (you can be heavily-fined, if you choose to ignore it).

Came about as a direct result, of an incident that happened in the City suburbs of London, just South of the River-Thames.

Place is called Blackheath...... (so named after the mass outbreak & burial of 'Black-Death' epidemic victims in the mid 1600's).

Early this century (around 2002/3), a guy is flying his R/c model airplane around one of the few large open-spaces close to the Centre

of London. (Place is also used by folks walking their dogs, playing football, cars, M/cycles & buses).

Despite close proximity to his 'toy', guy in question loses radio-receivership of his R/c, whilst it's swanning around at 120/150 + mph.

A Mother is walking along the other end of the 'Heath, together with her 13 year-old Daughter.

R/c 'toy' flies into the back of 13 year-old girl's head, virtually de-capitating her, in front of (understandably) screaming/hysterical Mother.

Police investigation & subsequent case goes to (High) Criminal Court.

Man/guy with 'stray' R/c, is jailed for Manslaughter.

That clarifies 'why' current legislation requires Brit' R/c enthusiasts to 'accquire' insurance (+ advised to join an 'officially recognised' R/c

club), to avoid similar repitition of the above tragic incident.

Re: Talk about bad luck!

I can't remember the source of the information, but there was a very large scale RC Boeing B-52 that crashed a couple of years ago in the US. There are pictures and videos of it somewhere on the internet. I believe it had 8 working scale jet engines, and was completely destroyed in the crash. If I owned something like that, I sure would insure it against liability as well as replacement cost.

Re: Talk about bad luck!

Hornchurch,
Hey there.

Makes sense. From what little I know about flying scale planes, you have to go to a designated area and get qualified by an instructor. I pretty sure the areas are out of the way of the general public to avoid instances like the one you mention.

Anything for a weird life.
