Hey Mo Gillys island was on my TV.

Do you remember the film ,The honourable Criton or was it Chriton.
An upper class mickey take of a bunch of wealthy Aristos shipwrecked on a desert island?

AAARRGGHHHHHHHHHHH !!!!

That means that there was yet another show which the BBC or Scottish Television dropped in order to show some boring crap in Gaelic which entertained two old ladies on Sky!

The Hon. Chrichton was played by " Bader ", himself : Kenneth More! It was a good role-reversal flic, in which the butler is the only person with practical skills on the desert island where a rich plutocrat and his guests and family are shipwrecked. It was a very funny idea ( worthy of J.B. Shaw ) but as usual, copped out of the serious side of the question.

The British Class System had a strong grip!!!

TRIVIA : The android servant in " Red Dwarf " was named after the character!

WELL, SPIN MY NIPPLE NUTS.

WELL, SPIN MY NIPPLE NUTS.

You know, Aircrafty!

You may have read my vituperative posts about the demise and ruination of what was the best sit-com on TV when it existed !

In years to come, people will feel about it the same way they did when " Star Drek " was cancelled.

Series one to six...brilliant!

Series 7 and 8 ....total rubbish...lost the plot....lost the characterisation.....

Why? The Producers smelled yankee dollars in the air and thus, threw the baby out with the bathwater!

There is some horrible show on the BBC at the moment. It is supposed to be sci-fi comedy. It is about as funny as Skunky's sore toe!

Hi guys,
I think Swiss Family Robinson was a large canned . Even as a kid I couldn't follow any of the storyline. I remember the professor was always alone with his Robot monotone voice and intelectual derision thrust upon the boy at a drop of a hat. It made the toy Billy Blast Off seem real. Then planet of the Apes was good for a dose of the profuse runs just sitting and wondering how the world reverted back to Apes while not on earth at all! The apes built space ships and kidnapped humans from earth to breed on their planet Get out of here it was the most painful show to watch as they couldn't figure out where the culture was going??? I'd have slapped Gilligan HARD for some of his antics always leading to their not being rescued. Ginger was always hitting on him and yet hed run off into the jungle and ^%$^& himself personal relief or find a stupid monkey. The good thing about Batman was his technology! And finally Rankin / Bass the cartoon makers dropped the ball with their brand of christmas viewing with knomes that drilled teeth and abomadable snow men overacting. It's no wonder the 60's have been forgotten!!

And i still watch it with my little ones during the hoilday season...That show brings back childhood Christmas memories for me
and to be able to share it with my kids and granddaughter is Priceless...

Re: Flower Arranging for Men

Dear Alph,

I think that you have ( without any intent, whatsoever! ) poked holes in the cosy tapestry of TV culture which us Baby-Boomers have for the 60s. How we regale the world with our fount of wisdom and trivia about the glorious, well-catered-for, childhood culture which is the envy of the known universe.

What innocent days they were.....and stupid too! You're quite right to slag-off what seems crass and stupid. After all, every show had to be moralistic, 99% white, elitist and non-political, as well as being thoroughly sexist. Most shows were badly plotted and populated with stereotypical WASPS. But the shows were for kids who were brought up in a world where the good was clearly pointed out to them, and was thoroughly divorced from the bad. Plain, simple and no-nonsense.

But, you know, I'd trade all the crap and sophistication of today's prole-feed for chidren if we could just turn the clock back for them ( the children ) and let them bathe in the protected world of make-believe and nonsense.
Sure, kids today are more sophisticated, coddled and liberated from the mores of their parents, but the inky bottom of that petrie dish of culture is as rotten as a fetid swamp, and just about as dangerous. Many of the shows and films which kids have access to today are disgusting, exploitative and demeaning. But that's the price which we have to pay for freedom......

What kind of society are we dealing with? This week in the U.K. the news has been dominated by the news of gangs of youths beating people to death on their own doorsteps for daring to argue with them about their behaviour.

Strange, I can't seem to recall that ever happening when I was growing up. And you can't blame poverty. I grew up in a poverty-stricken, post-war, weary society of kids who braved every danger in order to make an entertaining childhood kingdom for themselves. Kids did not kill.

Greed and envy are powerful screw-worms in the brains of today's western children.

No wonder parents' lives are full of worry!!!

Talking Re: Flower Arranging for Men

Hey alph, it's " Space Family Robinson " ( or " Lost in Space" ) not " Swiss Family Robinson " ! You've gone and confused Skunky again!

Prof Zachary Scott and Robbie the Robot

One of Skunky's secret stunt doubles who worked on " Lost in Space "

John Mills and lots of child actors who starred in " Swiss Family Robinson "
