Re: Flower Arranging for Men

Some members maybe thin skinned but that's not something that I should have to be concerned about. It's just not necessary to create the situation to begin with. Anyone who doesn't see the outcome of this topic a mile away is a fool. Why do anything that is unnecessary that will most certainly create divisiveness on a site that's purpose is to bring those of a common hobby together? It's just senseless. I'm tired of the petty stuff, it's an unwanted diversion to the purpose of this website.

It's a debate that I would love to have, but not here.

Re: Flower Arranging for Men

Admin, Please don't take this the wrong way, this was not a dig at you or the mod's, you are all doing a fabulous job. Just some people need to lighten up that all. Life can be stressful enough without taking everything said on here to seriously.

But what do you expect when such topics are being discussed. If countries go to war over such issues ( politics & religion ) you have to expect a few feathers are going to get ruffled.

The key words here are "clean and friendly".. Some recent thread topics are posted with the intent of insighting aggressive behavior.. And no matter how eloquently you argue the point, you cannot have topics about religion, politics or the environment without causing problems.. This is the main reason these topics are better off not on the forum at all..

Personally, I hold the (perhaps overly idealistic) view that debates of all kinds can be conducted in a mature, tolerant and respectful manner that fosters shared understanding of divergent viewpoints. What causes such debate to break down is the deliberate or sometimes unintentional use of inflammatory comments or personalising of issues.

Essentially, when debates are underway on the forum (in The Pub or elsewhere) try to be mindful of the tone that you're using and realise that the moderators have no desire to be heavy handed but will be if there is any evidence of 'trolling' or 'trolling' like behaviour i.e. behaviour/comments designed to create discord and inflame emotions.

Re: Flower Arranging for Men

Are we now having a debate about the debate?

While I appreciate the opinions it doesn't change the reality. These topics are born to deteriorate. So lets avoid them.

Ok?....OK

good I'm glad that's settled

Some members maybe thin skinned but that's not something that I should have to be concerned about. It's just not necessary to create the situation to begin with. Anyone who doesn't see the outcome of this topic a mile away is a fool. That wasn't arranged, pardon the pun, to insert another global warming dig was it? Maybe to get the argument going again?

Let it go...

The moderators and I are tired of having to deal with the threads that are controversial for the sake of being controversial. Though this is the "off topic" forum, it's on a model collecting website. So, lets keep it light hearted and leave the politics and fad science on the websites that cater to those topics. If I've received enough complaints to shut downthe first two threads do you really think that a third is going to be any different?

It's not the first time I have posted this reasoning.

The complaints stemmed from the aggressive behavior between members, not the nature of anyones opinions. I am a very political person, but I fight the urge to get involved because this is not the place to hammer out the worlds problems.

The three things you don't talk about when drinking are; Religion, Politics, and the other guy's wife.

Lets use that rule here too. Everyone has strong feelings about these topics and your not going to convert anyone on such core issues. All that you end up doing is promoting strife amongst the membership.

Re: Flower Arranging for Men

Sorry, I don't mean to offend, but realistically, "mature/ tolerant/ respectful" isn't going to be found in threads regarding the 3 named topics, just because everyone has an opinion and some feel strongly about it enough to take it personally..

I think I've said my fill on this and Cardinal, I'm sorry, I consider you a good friend, and I apologize if my previous statement offended you..
