Well done Johnnyboy, thats the one. Any ideas when that was shown? I do remember his stripey hat!

I was very lucky as a small child, my mother worked for a television and radio shop and purchased a TV very cheaply.
I remember the day I came home and saw this amazing little box sitting on the table in the front room. It had a whole 12 inch screen and received BBC.
When the programmes finished the BBC played God save the Queen and my mum made me stand up until the music stopped.
The next great inovation she brought home was a huge magnifying screen that fitted onto the front of the TV and made the picture a lot bigger.
THEN, the TV technician came and fixed the TV so we could get two channels!!!!
Back then TVs were very rare in working class homes so ours was a bit of a crowd puller and we always seemed to have a house full of people who just happened to be in the neighbourhood!
Its interesting to look back, we take so much for granted these days.

God Bless America.

I remember going to a neighbor's house to watch The Wizard of Oz as a kid because they had a color television.

I also remember the remote control with a wire running to the TV. And the Beta video players.

I remember when the remote control was ME!....."Skunky, get up and turn to channel 7......Skunky get up and turn the volume down......Skunky get up and turn to channel 5.....Skunky get up and put some more aluminum foil on the rabbit ears.....Skunky get up and bang on the side of the TV......Skunky get up and fiddle with the vertical hold.....Skunky get up and turn to channel 4" (thank God there were only 3 channels).......Those were indeed the Dark Ages...It's a wonder I survived.....

Re: Flower Arranging for Men

Anyone a fan of This is Spinal Tap?

I love that movie, and it has some of the best lines of all time:

Nigel Tufnel: The numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and...
Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten?
Nigel Tufnel: Exactly.
Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it's louder? Is it any louder?
Nigel Tufnel: Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where?
Marty DiBergi: I don't know.
Nigel Tufnel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?
Marty DiBergi: Put it up to eleven.
Nigel Tufnel: Eleven. Exactly. One louder.
Marty DiBergi: Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?
Nigel Tufnel: [pause] These go to eleven.

I remember going to the neighbours house because they had a black & white TV (and we had none!). Geez, I'm showing my age???
