Skunky,

you're in danger! Those Spartan fellows had some peculiar ideas. If they hadn't been bloodthirsty killers, they might have taken up interior decorating.

Re: 300

True history may be out the window, but what I did like is the interest stirred in my 7 yr old. And that impresses me, to see him want to know more about the story and what happened. The nudity, while there isn't as bad or over done. Its far from Porky's on that note.

Re: 300

Well, I just got back from seeing it. This is not a complaint but you can throw history out the window on this one. I found it entertaining though, and I was glad the this story was chosen by the studio. I don't know that I would recommend it for kids, aside from the blood there's quite a bit of nudity and some rather ....hmm how should I say.."comprehensive" sex scenes in it.

Three out of five stars.

Ok - help me out here. Shawn took his 7 yr. old. I've been debating whether to take my 11 yr old. (not trying to brag here) Academically he is beyond his years - verbally he is about the same as communicating with a college freshman. He gets a lot of adult humor; situations; and double meanings - even though he may not understand EVERYTHING about the situation. He is VERY tuned into sublties. HOWEVER, he is emotionally 11 and has the life experiences of an 11 yr. old. (We had issues with him watching the Family Guy last year. He got the humor he shouldn't be getting - but then would use it in class with his teacher - not "getting" the time/place/age/appropriateness of the humor.)

Can anyone who has seen this, add some more specific perspective on this movie? How "graphic" is the sex? What is the context of the sex/sexuality? Is the violence over-the-top in a pornographic sense or is it a simple reflection of the violence of ancient warfare?

I'm not prudish or try to overshelter my kids - I just am looking for more info to make a better informed decision. (And I'm too cheap to want to pay - time/money - to see it twice - once for review, then with my son )

Re: 300

Dear Dadoser,

read all the reviews from Us newspapers on the ' Rotten Tomatoes' site ( about 20 reviews ).

You can get a quick link to the site from the one I posted on the " Movies and Models and Bouncing Bombs' thread.

This should give you a comprehensive overview.

cheers,

MoMo

Hmmmm...Well, as far as the "sex scene" goes in 300, compared to Frank Miller's SIN CITY it's rather tame, imho. It ain't like a "bump and grind" sessions like you would see.. say - PORKY's, American Pie, Fast Times At Ridgemont High, or whatever gratuitous sex scenes that come from other "R" rated films. Please excuse my relatively crude analogy of these films. I'm just a simpleton.

As for the violence, the decapitation of heads, limbs etc. ain't nothing like the very graphic scenes in the Starship Troopers movie!

Re: 300

Violence:
heads get cut off several times, and there is one close up where the camera follows a flying head in slow motion. There's plenty of blood, but that's to be expected in an edged weapon combat scene.

Sex:
The oracle scene shows female breasts. There is only one graphic sex scene, but it keeps going much longer than your expecting it too. Some high school kids were behind me and one said "next I bet they show style" and he was right. It was a little funny in a sophomoric way.

Have not seen the movie myself so can't comment from that perspective. However, here is a great website for parents contemplating whether to take junior to the movies: http://www.screenit.com/

When the naughty bits came up, Patrick put up his hands and waited for the b**bies to go away. The oracle scene is no worse than seeing his mother come out of the shower really. The sex scene again, brought out his self enduced goggles until I gave the all clear. The blood and gore is no worse if that than Braveheart. And heck, no worse really than a good PS2 game.
Patrick is an Army brat. He has more trigger time than most adults. He goes to work with Dad, sometimes to the woods. I don't hide things from him, but I wont show him things just to do it either. We deal with each issue as it comes along. He is alot wiser and more mature than I give him credit sometimes.
Here is your warnings for the times to cover eyes. Cover your kid's eyes when the King walks into see what the oracle says (plenty of heads up time), and the scene where the kings gets alittle QT before heading off to fight. Again as an adult, you'll know its coming and can act accordingly.
Other than that. I'm impressed with his desire to know more about what happened. And while it may not be 100% accurate, if it makes him want to know more. That is a winner movie to me.
