The resurgence of collecting "For Men"

Hi all,
It's not all bad to spend your hard earned money on things you like which make you comfortable. Sort of like comfort food we choose select items to add to our collections. I see a lot of guys in the die-cast isle at Walmart. But you'd be hard pressed to get them to admit to making the purchase for them selves. I have NO problem with my hobbies. Fact is their easy to attain and paid for! Who among you would cop to having an extensive collections when the status quo delegates we give up our child like ways at 16. I for one surrounded myself with friends who always collected Tools/fishing tackle Even a collection of every issue of Playboy. Now days it's not odd but very common to collect. Alph

Re: The resurgence of collecting "For Men"

I spend most of my free time browsing Walmarts isles looking for my toys.. Most of the men I see are looking at Hotwheels or StarWars stuff, I very rarely see anyone looking at the same stuff I do, but I know people buy it because the stuff is selling..
I do believe my fascination with my hobby is officially an obsession since I often feel dismay when I can't buy something and go home or back to work empty handed..

Re: The resurgence of collecting "For Men"

I have always collected something and when I do I tend to go overboard (or so it seems). Growing up I had plastic models and a real nice rock collection (which was "lost" by a moving company). Then I collected and restored antique radios from the 30's - 50's. There was then a lull while I went to school, got married, etc. Came back to collecting with my involvement in Civil War reenacting and started collecting that stuff. Now the current, and frankly, most fun collecting is with die cast airplanes and tanks. It is like I have gone full-circle, but instead of plastic planes and tanks they are now metal (and look a whole bunch better!).

I do appreciate my family's tolerance of my collecting bug as they have put up with it for a long time. I hope they continue to have patience with me as I don't intend to stop anytime soon.

Oh! And I am loud and proud and out of the collector closet in regard to my passion for this hobby.

I know what you mean! I'm looking for the Tiger Meet F-104 and this will be the third month I have yet to find it. I did order the New Nascar Car of Tomorrow Joe Nemacheck ARMY of 1 but not much else I'm looking for.

Re: The resurgence of collecting "For Men"

Well when you have a big family like i have it's kinda hard to do everything i want to do.
Like Harry we shop at Wally World alot and i'll sneak in over at the toy area every chance i get and find alot of other guys going after the Hotwheels and Nascar diecast.
But in the last year this plane collecting must of heated up because the stores here sell out as fast as they get any new planes in.
I remember a few times i had to come in early to get i waited for the store to open at 7am and there would be 5 or 6 guys all waiting to get in there first.
it turns out these sames guys have been doing this for years going right up to the Hotwheels area and buying all the new items and if their lucky they came out with a trasure hunt car and these guys were selling them off to some big shot in the Sac area i was told.
No wonder why some local area collectors got mad at that.

You must tell these wayward and ashamed collectors about The Model Hangar. We'll teach them to be shame free.

Yes Mark Martain! I'm alittle mixed up with all the new ride changes. This is and RCCA version of the Car of tomorrow.
