Where, Oh Where, Has My Little Dog Gone?

Don't it make you sick when you see these guys who call themselves 'Professors' sounding off on TV about Global Warming?

On tonight's BBC news we had to witness two geezers who were poo-pooing the concerns which people have for our dying planet by sneering at their concern and informing us that whatever people do, they can't affect climate change because no matter what nations do, they just cannot affect anything as complex and variable as the planet's climate.

They are the kind of creatures who deserve no respect and everyone's contempt because they have sold their souls to the media on this issue.

The great corporations which control the news, the economy are delighted to invite these morons on to the airwaves in order to pacify and reassure the masses before concern for our collective well-being affects their profits.

They remind me of the Romans who watched Vesuvius in its initial eruptive stages. They stood still, in awe, muttering, " I wonder what it will do next? "

They found out when the tide of white-hot ash rolled down the hill and roasted them alive. Men, women, dogs, cats, horses, et al, were all engulfed in the catastrophe.

Thousands of years later, long after Pliny had described the eruption, the cavities created by the bodies of the fallen were revealed to modern man through the simple expedient of filling the voids with Plaster-of-Paris which revealed people clutching each other, people reaching for comfort, people caught in the acts of stealing, running, crying and shouting.

Some of the cavities revealed the pets of the victims. Several were dogs. Some chained pathetically to the doorways which they would guard for eternity, some cowering in fear at the power of the Earth, the nature of which they could only be vaguely aware of, some loyally remaining beside their masters as they faced an unfathomable threat to the hand which fed them.

Such a little disruption of history, far off in time and well past caring about. But with a significance which spirals beyond the mere consequences of the event.

Pliny read the signs of the impending tragedy and knew that all who could not flee would remain in Pompeii and Herculanium frozen in time and place by events which man could only comprehend by reference to divine retribution.

When I visited Pompeii, I gazed in wonder at the walls and artifacts and thought that I saw a message for us all.

Mess with the Earth and, unlike the plaster dogs of Pompeii, it bites back!

Oh, those professors? They haven't a clue as to what's happening. I don't know much about it either.

However, like a dog who has been in the sun too long, I'm just mad enough to bite, in order to teach them a pointy lesson!

I'm not about to get into a big discussion on this, but there are plenty of serious, respected, climatologists (sp?) who do not believe man has anything to do with any potential global warming.

As to the above quote regarding some folks having "sold their souls to the media", I hardly think so. The media is fully on the side of "man causing global warming" and if anything makes fun of or derides anyone with a different view.

Re: Where, Oh Where, Has My Little Dog Gone?

.........and another thing!

Why is it that those who consume most of the world's resources are the very ones who will not sign up to doing anything about the mess and pollution which they help to create?

Now, another topic : I watched the movie, " Weapons of Mass Deception " last night. I didn't think that it revealed much that was new to me, but I did get the feeling that figures like Walter Cronkite were contemptuous beyond belief at the way in which the huge industrial concerns of the United States had manipulated the television news of the recent and present war in Iraq.

A parade of hacks from the major networks made pathetic excuses for their network's coverage and tried to defend the system by which the news is reported. This system which we have come to know as " Embedded Journalism" is well named. The journalists are in bed with the forces and are drip-fed items of news, as and when the army decides, and are treated as friendly, so long as they are not critical of the job which the army is doing.

This system is so flawed, and unconstitutional, that it beggars belief!

The British Army has the same deal. The public have bought into the idea on the basis that :
  • might is right
  • our army can do no wrong
  • we don't want to give aid and comfort to the enemy
  • they know what they are doing
  • keep a stiff upper lip
  • stand united
  • don't appear divided
  • etc. ..........
When was it decided that there would be little or no accounting of foreign intervention on the basis of creating the army as a separate entity from the rest of us?

If the army is just doing a job ' over there ', then why isn't that job the subject of independant scrutiny?

Why has the army become independant of the constraints of democratic debate? Surely this usurps one of the most important elements of democratic freedom which the army's masters seek to impose?

This is only a tiny fraction of the questions which have to be asked about what is happening as a consequence of the recent conflict.

All that I see is an arm of democracy and freedom being corrupted by the machinations of unscrupulous political adventurers who are despoiling the concept of the army of Right, and condemning future generations of the west to wearing the mantle of the armed bully while the media reassures us that it's all right, there was little colatteral damage!

You get the coverage which you want to hear!

Re: Where, Oh Where, Has My Little Dog Gone?

Regarding Iraq and weapons of mass de....(whatever)

See my signature quote - from someone who most wouldn't exactly consider a (pacifist) liberal.

Also, look into Smedley Butler - one of only 2 Marines in U.S. history to have won the Medal of Honor twice (again, not exactly a pacifist "liberal"). He rose from the enlisted ranks to the officer class as a career Marine. He has some VERY interesting perspectives on war and war profiteering. Does his perspective still hold relevence today in 2007? Look him up and you decide.

Absolutely agree with Captain Eddie. Earth's climate cycles approx every 1500 years, so someone who has subscribed to the 'new religion' needs to explain how the planet recovered from previous ice ages when SUV's weren't around to take the blame.

Does anyone recall the acid rain scare from the 80's? Completely debunked.

The US Govt provides $3 Billion per year for Global Warming research, and a lot of the biggest proponents of the theory are feeding from the trough. They know where their paychecks come from.

And Al Gore is out there doing his best shuck and jive sweaty evangelist preacher impression, pulling down Millions of $$ per speech while just one of his huge mansion homes burn more energy in a month than most people's homes do in a year, AND buying carbon credits from a firm HE runs. He's laughing all the way to the bank.

That's all I've got to say on the matter.

Dear God, this is just the old thread resurrected.... Admin?

You mean China?

Well if we're talking about Kyoto, what's not well reported is that a lot of the signatories are not living up to the emission controls the agreement outlines. But that's ok, at least they signed.

MoMo -
While I would AGREE with you regarding the evidence that man contributes to global warning AND we should all make some type of effort to cut down on polluting the earth.............

Pompeii is a BAD analogy. This example proves your opposition's point - Man (the Romans) could do nothing to stop/reverse the catastrophy of Vesuvious - all they could do would have been to run like He!!.

While I'm with you, brother - look for examples in which people have reversed a pollution trend and/or had a positive effect on the environment.

Take care,

Dont mention China to me

Thats where my job went!

They dont have to pay large amounts of money for treating their industrial waste, they just dump it in the river.

They can spew out filth into the atmosphere. (my neighbour was fined for burning rubbish in his garden would you believe).

Health and safety ,pensions, unions, sick pay, ????????????????????? What in China.
Western bankers finance them and to hell with their own people. Exploitation of slave labour.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOh dont get me started on this one , I could make Mo look like a pussy cat by comparison.
