Re: Where, Oh Where, Has My Little Dog Gone?

Don't forget about...

That mini ice age that could happen at any point...

What happens if it starts getting colder next year? THE NEXT ICE AGE!!!!!

As an ex-meteorologist, I remember that the climatological history says the earth has an ice-age every 26 millions years or so, If I recall my facts straight. And we are currently many millions of years overdue at this point.

Another climatological point brought up in the global warming debate ( from my days at ol' K.U. - Rock, Chalk, Jayhawks! ) :
1.) Increased air temperature will also translate to increased water temperature (i.e. ocean surface temperature).
2.) Increased ocean surface temperature leads to increased water evaporation into the air.
3.) Increased water evaporation into the air leads to increased cloud formation and cloud cover over the earth's surface.
4.) Increased cloud cover will lead to more of the sun's energy being reflected back into space rather than being absorbed by the ground, air and water.
5.) More energy being bounced back into space (from more clouds) will lead to cooler temperatures at the surface.

Hmmmmm ... don't count out ol' mother earth. I'm quite sure we're screwing her up, but she's probably tougher than we think and has ways to counteract our mess, even if all of us monkeys don't survive.

So when the #@><~$% is someone going to get around to inventing cold fusion so we can give up on all this fossil fuel hooha?

Hey Skunky pass me an umbrella please, Momo point well taken but by the time we as a whole do something about it mother nature will probably take care of it like having Yellowstone National park blow it's lid.(scientist say it is a super volcano). Then it would be mother nature's fault for the air pollution.

Lightbulb

I don't know much about global warming specifically, and long term predictions about climate change and whatnot. I prefer to stick with topics along the lines of diecast models, aircraft, and military history and keep away from politics.

But, it does make sense to me to tread as lightly on the earth as possible. It just seems prudent for us to develop alternative/renewable, non-Middle Eastern energy sources, to gradually reduce emissions of any kind from cars, trucks, power plants, etc. It's a small planet and we're stuck on it, so let's not pollute it from end to end if we can help it. Maybe all that CO2 we're putting in the air will affect the climate and maybe it won't, but why take the risk if we can reduce or offset it? I'm not a crunchy tree hugger, but do take some simple steps in my personal life - as long as it doesn't hurt the diecast collection(!) - such as drive a fuel efficient vehicle (Mazda 3) no bigger than I need, walk/bike/mass transit when possible, keep the thermostat down, replace lightbulbs with compact flourescent, bring refillable travel mug to the coffee bar, and recycle cans & bottles. Why not, it's easy and saves money, too.

It couldn't be Skunky, although many people have threatened to insert him into a horse

No, Skunky was threatened to be inserted by a famous American actor whose surname rhymes with "here" . . . and it wasn't a horse!

I know, I know...that's just an urban legend!

The gent in question is good ol' Geraldo Rivera, the cream of the American media!

Good post Ted. I think along the same lines. Who knows if the future is as gloomy as some predict, but why take chances? We haven't got many other alternatives if we completely screw this planet.

YAAAAAAAYYYYY!!!!!...I sense another storm brewing!!.....

How about Bank of America wanting to give out credit cards to illegals? "Si, senor ...me want a VISA but not a work visa." Just add the cost of bad debt from illegals to the national bill, so your grandkids can pay for it....

Don't get me started on that one mikeb1958, I'm of Hispanic decent, born here in California, good job, a couple of bad marks from my early thirties and they still denied me a Visa oh I've been a customer for over 15 yrs....... Being a citizen of this country kept me from getting any type of local, state and federal help when it was needed.
