Re: Make your own Collection

I'm quite pleased his bamboo model is still in perfect shape when considering its age. I thought it would have deteriorated by now. And it was made by a local Chinese man and not some manufacturing company.

MoMo, it is so unfortunate items of that nature are chucked by ignorant relatives. I'm glad my family has been saving all of his items. My grandmother wants me to inherit his leathery flying jacket. There's no way I am close to being worthy to wear it.

Don't do what BDE tells you to do. Do what BDE would want you to do.

Re: Make your own Collection

Does anyone know what a DH-88 is?
Alph

It's a De-Havilland DH-88 Comet. A 1930's racing plane that won a race from the UK to Australia and also set several other records

I went to University at Hatfield where the De-Havilland had their factory (a few years before it closed), and there was a hotel called the comet there. It had a big red model of it on a plinth outside the front. I believe the experience with this directly helped in the development of the Mossie.

Re: Make your own Collection

Your Right Timbo!
You've just Aced the first step in building a wooden model! That's what collecting is all about. Your having access to the plant where these were built is fantastic! Later I'll post a photo of a model DH-88 I've been working on. Race planes are a great subject to start with. Such projects as these are great for rainy days or weekends. The single challenge is to find all the reference's to what ever model your engineering. Alph

Re: Make your own Collection

Hi Timbo,
Heck YES that counts! Pinewood Derby cars are really fun. Get up on Google type in Pine wood derby Cars and see just what others have done. Anytime you sit down and take the shape out of a Square block your on your way to carving! I'll find a link for you too! Alph

This link will also give you some ideas for your projects. There even some that you can down load templates to shape your car. Enjoy.
