A sad day indeed. I really respect those pilots. I'm deeply saddened.

Tell me a bit about the Congressional Gold Medal. What is the significance. Why after all this time? Excuse my ignorance.

Re: Charles White- Tuskegee Airmen RIP

I think we all feel great sadness every time we lose one these very special pilots.

I think we all have a duty to keep alive the memory of them for future generations.

So next time anyone goes to an airshow or a museum make sure that a young person gets taken along and give them a little education in how to give instead of take. There can be no finer example than those airmen we all admire so much.

God Bless America.

Check this: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c109:H.R.1259:

Also this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congressional_Gold_Medal

Basically, the Medal of Honor (called Congressional Medal of Honor because it is awarded by President in name of Congress) is the highest U.S. military award while the Congressional Gold Medal is the highest award of the U.S. legislature.
