OK. let me give you my current WWII realistic wish list for the 1:72 scale. U.S.A.: P-36, P-61, TBD, SB2C, A-20; Great Britain:Tempest V, Beaufighter, Hudson, Firefly; USSR: LA5FN, Yak-3 or-9, PE-2, IL-2M; France: MS-406, Dewoitine D. 520; Italy: Fiat CR-42, MC-202, SM-79; Germany: ME-410, HE-219, DO-17Z, FW-200; Japan: Nate, Oscar, Tony, Frank, Nick, Val, Kate, Sally, Betty. That's my "realistic" top thirty. Now if you ask me what other planes I would really like to see in 1:72 scale diecast, my list expands to include the U.S. C-46, Russia's Lagg-3 and IL-4, Japan's Potez 631, Germany's DO-217E , HE-177, HE-115, FW-189, and Arado-196,and, Japan's Tojo, Claude, George, Jack, Nell , Jake and Pete. Of course, few manufacturers would consider any of the latter choices as viable in terms of profitability. I can probably be coaxed into developing similar lists for other scales and eras but I'd still like to get some management feedback to further inspire me. Hello out there, what do you think?

Re: Poll Positions

Nice list - and I thought I was an aviation buff! My list is much more common I think which just goes to show how little I really know about other country's aircraft besides America's. You guys have listed some planes that I have never heard of. I need to google some of these to find out if I want them.

Cough...! I didn't know the Hudson was British, and the Potez 631 Japanese...

IMHO, many of the planes you have listed as unlikely to interest manufacturers, would be as viable a choice as any other :

For example, the He 219 or even TBD, are less important types than the French Potez 630 family, Lagg-3, Do 217 or KI-44...

Re: Poll Positions

Judging by the number of views this thread is garnering, there seems to be a lot of interest in the idea of this poll , which, basically, is to offer manufacturers useful inputs in making their decisions about new models to bring to market. I think that we have presented the concept and refined it somewhat, but now find ourselves in a holding position. Some people are already submitting wish lists, which is, to say the least, premature. I think that we need to wait for a management response before raising false hopes for without its input, guidance and programming/tallying help were are not going to get very far. I like the idea, as you can tell by my posts, however we must to remember that the poll --in whatever form it ultimately takes-- must present choices that are reasonable from a manufacturer's business viewpoint. That doesn't mean that we can't stray from the usual suspects---P-40s, Spitfires, etc. But there's little point asking them to make planes that saw little action, never went beyond the prototype stage and so on. Somehow, the poll needs to winnow out the unrealistic requests,so manufacturers take it seriously. Also, we need a mechanism to encourage a lot of voting, not merely a poll dominated by a small hard core of dedicated fans of particular planes, scales and eras. I remain optimistic, but the project needs to get organized before deliberating further.

I think I'm missing something here- on the one hand, you're in favor of the poll. On the other, it seems you want the choices of candidate aircraft for the poll to be limited, even before the actual poll is created. Isn't that the point of the write ins? Or, do you prefer that the lists of candidate aircraft come just from the manufacturers themselves?
Assuming enough people participate, won't these lists give enough of an idea of what may be considered "realistic" requests to include in the actual poll?
Besides, who can make a determination of what an "unrealistic request" is unless there is some idea of what people may want?
I agree, this poll may be doomed from the start if not enough people participate. Premature or not, imo, the best way to ensure that the poll succeeds is to allow people to submit their write-in lists. They then have a vested interest in voting in the actual poll.
As far as managements' silence on this, maybe they are waiting for us to step up and actually organize and start up the poll. If that's the case, I'm ready to volunteer to help get this done.

Let's not nitpick anyone's choices in the write-ins so far. I think Epi's right, at this point we need SOME kind of guidance from management on how to proceed further. If this poll is blessed, the debate on which aircraft to include in a poll will be done by sifting through the write-ins. Hopefully, enough people will want to send in write-in lists (200 people, 500? I don't know) so an accurate determination can be made as to which aircraft to include in an actual poll.

Sorry about the Potez 631. It's French, of course. As for the Hudson, while U.S.-made it was used mainly by the British. On the others, I think you will find that many members have expressed a preference for the TBD, despite its limited and indifferent service. I like this plane because it symbolizes a futile but heroic action at Midway. The HE 219,as you indicate, had a limited service life, but it's an impressive design---certainly WWII.s best nightfighter and I like its mean, wasp-like look. It's really a matter of taste. I wouldn't mind having a "Tojo", but in a limited selection, it doesn't make the cut--at least, not for me.

Re: Poll Positions

Rush - I'm new to this forum so I haven't figured out yet who the owners and leaders are but contacting them through PM may be our only chance to get their blessing and guidance. And - if you are willing to volunteer to be "The Sifter", I'll vote for ya!

Thanks for the vote of confidence, lanslide. I'm still relatively new here, too. I would suggest contacting Gavin (Admin); look in the "Happy Birthday" thread for contact info.
If I was savvy enough with spreadsheets (or other poll creating programs) I'd volunteer for that. Unfortunately, I'm not. But, I will help anyway I can.
I would suggest this, though, for the write-in tallying. It might be better to have the same results sent to three separate people, who will sift through the planes. That may be the only way of heading off any "sour grapes" or accusations of fudging the votes.
