Re: One scale and one scale only - what would you choose? (aircraft & armour)

I feel the same as some of the other guys here and have to say 1/72 for the size issue, 1/144 lacks a little too much detail for me and while the pics some of you have posted of the 1/48 and 1/32 models are quite nice for details such as opening gun hatches and cockpits I just would not have the space for them......Unless we build a new wing onto the house.......hmmmmm

Hurriup, why not add two wings to your house and your ready for flight.

1/72 seems to be the best overall size that allows displays of the larger aircraft along with the smaller planes from that era. Most of my collection is 1/72 with a few 1/48 and 1/35 thrown in.

I have a bit of every scale (1/72, 1/48, 1/35, 1/32, 1/18) but if I had to choose just one, it would be 1/72. The level of detail is generally OK and the size is much easier to display. Also, with the exception of Corgi, it's much easier on the budget.

Thumbs down Re: One scale and one scale only - what would you choose? (aircraft & armour)

Just was wondering if more choose the 1/72 over the 1/48 scale because of cost. Around $35 dollars less. What if both sizes were priced the same??
I collect 1/48 mostly because it's just a nice size. The larger 48's like the JU52, B-24, and B-17 are just to stinken large though. On these larger ones I would go with the 1/72. But the 1/144 size to me is way to small. This size is more like what I would buy my kids to play with. No way I would ever collect the 1/144 stuff.

I say the industry just create a new scale -- 1/60. This is half way between 1/72 and 1/48th. A bit larger than 72 and a bit smaller than 48. This way we could ALL be happy. Yup, I'd be good with that!

(OK. I've put in too many hours over the last 2 days.)

I'm still happy with 1/72, as most of my birds have 2 - 4 engines and roundels.

I have the Teeny-Weenies to the 1:18 from Ultimate Soldier and Wal-Mart. My 1:45 Spec-Cast and 1:48 FM are on a shelf by themselves. My Model Power and 1:144 Corgi allow many planes to be lined up.

All in all, I have nearly a fighter group of Mustangs. Any size, but 1:72 looks the best.

I answered 1/48, but since I also collect armor, it's really 1/48 and 1/50 together. These scales are close enough to each other.

In practice I collect all scales, though. But 1/48 will remain my favorite, followed by 1/32.
