Re: Can a store do this?

Cannot be 100% sure, but I seem to remember it's either Fedex or UPS.

Well, I don't have a shipping notification in my email yet. Another disconcerting fact

Don't do what BDE tells you to do. Do what BDE would want you to do.

I would recommend you pick up the phone and speak to them - They are not exactly technically savvy, which is why I always phone to place my orders (The only place I do!)

One would think Shipping Info to be on their web site along with the other usual information that most other online retailer sites provide. (Hmmmmmm . . . I dunno.)

Mine was shipped UPS. I called them and asked if they sent out e-mail confirmation when shipped; the answer: no. I didn't ask for any other information, just put my trust in them, and eventually the item arrived, but it did take awhile. Again, they took care of me when it arrived defective, great service on that, but I did feel I was gouged for the shipping (especially when I FedEx'd the defective item to them for only $9.50). So total shipping costs for me to get a non-defective model: $29.50.

Yeah, one would think... but not there. Again, as Timbo mentioned, they seem to be not really tech savy.

Re: Can a store do this?

and that's quite disconcerting for a customer. I sat there wondering 'did my order go through' for a week. Does Perry ship by UPS, FedEx, or USPS? I cannot recall.

He has shipped to me a number of times and it's always been UPS....Only once was it USPS Priority Mail ...
I have always order on-line from him and then i would call him a few mins later to make sure he got my order
and he will check it and see he has it and bingo it will ship out the next day or two UPS..

At risk of sounding like a pedant, the situation isn't really a technical one, per se, but more of a holistic communications one -- and the 'technician' who 'poured the content' into the site template just doesn't appear to have a communications background. It appears they may have spent all of their budget on setting up the data base. This is, regrettably, so common in online communications, and because of it, my firm is usually quite busy( ).

Too bad, too, as they have some really interesting new-old-stock that I wouldn't mind getting my grubby little hands on!

Just my 2¢ worth.

No it's not Technical it's a "I don't understand what Technology can do for me and my customers as a whole, and how do I send an email again?" one - I think we are lucky to have the site we have. I'm sure if it was up to Mr Perry it would be walk-ins and phone orders only.

Technology can be scary - esp if you haven't grown up with it - To remind myself of this - all I have to do is walk outside my office. This is where I think they are, and probably are challenged to send an email. My rule of thumb is - if the web site sucks - give them a ring!

Coming from someone inside the IT industry, on-line communications is all very well, but nothing beats a phone call and a conversation for customer support - If they suck after that - then you know their bad.

Potential business opp for you?? - Maybe he'd pay in 1/72 Lancasters

I do agree with that and also see a lot of what you speak of first-hand. But the lack of a 1-800 number isn't inspiring my confidence, and I'm too cheap to pay for a call. I think I may be arriving at the conclusion that I'll take an overall pass after what I've read here and not seen on their site. There are so many other solid dealers to choose from -- including the eBay and MH forum ones.

(heh-heh) I'd maybe consider the 1:72 Lancaster option but I'm sure it would add up to quite a few -- except we're not taking any new clients currently. (I would have expected 1:144 though! -- ROTFLMAO)

Re: Can a store do this?

Not too many dealers in this hobby will have toll free #. From what I can tell many have a hard time making a profit to begin with. I had a friend in this business, he got out after he added all the different cost up trying to make money was almost impossible. Many of the dealers are home based in this biz also. I have bought from at least 8 I see on here now and then and only 2 ever did a very good job, most had pricing shipping cost issues and damaged goods issues, tried two times from two of them and both shipping cost and shipping damage occured both times. I stick to Ebay and one other dealer that is out of his house. No real issues with either one on price, shipping cost, time to ship or damage, so I stick with them.
