Cool Sites out your window

Little background:
I work next to the Toronto Airport, on the 6th floor (that's as tall as they are allowed near the Airport for obvious reasons)
At the best of times it is distracting due to my window over looks and is parralel to the main runway.
So today I hear a loud, and I mean a load roar coming from outside, and I look up just in time to see a CF-18 pass my window, make a quick 90 Degree turn at the end of the runway and still touch down less than halfway down the runway.
One of the most amazing things I have ever seen.
Lots of planes are in town for the airshow over the lake at downtown Toronto, and they park at Pearson airport. (in the suburbs)

I envy you guys in the US that see these types of things on a daily basis, but here it is rare as the closest CF-18 base is probably 8 hrs away by car.

Now I am stoked to go to the Airshow, even though I hate going downtown.

Anyody else have these kind of experiences.

Re: Cool Sites out your window

A public swimming pool is directly across the street from my office window, and I have a great view. Does that count?

Actually, I used to work in a building out near the County fairgrounds. The Blue Angels would come each summer for the annual county fair and make their trial runs right outside my window. Life was good back then....

That would be a pretty neat site alright, enjoy the sights! Are you going to snap any pics and post them?

Re: Cool Sites out your window

I live under the flight pattern of my local airport, which has an ANG base. I see plenty of F-16s and refueler aircraft and the occasional C-130. And my unit's armory is located adjacent to another ANG base, which has a KC-135 wing. It also has a aircraft paint shop and there's always different USAF aircraft coming and going from it. I was there yesterday and there were 2 F-16s on the ramp with these tails.

Unfortunately I am working and don't have a camara with me.

Might take some picks if I get down to the airshow.

Re: Cool Sites out your window

Back at the old chathem air force base I once saw a cf-18 do a touch and go and it just blew me away. He came in like he was going to land, hit the burners and was gone!! The noise was so loud and cool it even caused the windows to shake!!!

I don't live close to a base but I am a member of the flying club at Patuxent River Naval Air Station. For those of you that aren't familiar, Edwards Air Force Base is the USAF's version of Pax River...flight test central. It's common to check out a Cessna 172 for a flight and be sandwiched in between F/A-18s and other fast movers in the traffic. The flight test school even brings in privately owned MiGs and other high-performance aircraft with unusual characteristics for training occasionally (I once was on final to one of the runways at Pax River and saw a MiG-17 holding short waiting for me to land). Defintely a cool place and worth a vist if you're ever in southern Maryland.

Pax River also has a neat little museum and collection of aircraft.

When I lived in Cambridge our house was on the flight path to Duxford & the most awesome spectacle I witnessed was when Concorde 02 arrived to be on permanent display there it gave a small impromptu display over our village before landing......majestic what can I see out of my window here? a ginger tom washing himself on our shed roof

Right you are. There is a giant outdoor static display section with test aircraft going all the way back to the Douglas F4D and as far forward as the JSF. The museum is in the middle of a major rennovation and rebuilding effort and should be a great regional museum when finished. On the NAS there are numerous static displays and if you can wrangle a visit to the Test Pilot school hangar they have some neat stuff there (including a DeHavilland Beaver).
