Re: How many of you also collect aviation art?

What I find considerably surprising (remember we're talking about Skunky here) is that these prints, including the framing, appear to actually be quite stylish and bordering on good taste - one would have expected more garish frames and artwork less well defined from our resident gnome ...

One sheep to rule them all ...

Re: How many of you also collect aviation art?

Disgusting, ain't it Cardo?.....darn wives anyway.....She told me if I was going to hang those "stupid things" up they had to at least be tastefully framed..and she won't allow any prints depicting any sort of shooting , deployment of ordnance or their after effects (what planet did she come from, anyway?).....Actually the Hornet print was a Christmas present from her a couple of years ago. I pointed out to her that those weren't milk bottles slung under the wings and she said it was okay as long as they were still firmly attached and there was no fire or smoke anywhere in the scene....What an oddball, eh???

But being the husband of the year that I am, I dutifully comply with Her Majesty's wishes.

You guys have absolutely no idea what I have to put up with!..

Re: How many of you also collect aviation art?

Here are my few prints:

The first, my pride and joy, by Robert Taylor.

The second, another Taylor print, this one also signed by Bud Anderson (not part of the included signatures but he was in the shop when I got this and was gracious enough to also sign).

3 and 4 are black and white pencil sketches by Taylor and 5 and 6 are inexpensive but still beautiful prints from an artist named Dan Zoernig.

Finally, number 7, my sleekest "bird."

Re: How many of you also collect aviation art?

Old Crow,

Love that second one, showing Elwyn Righetti's 'Katydid' (& Flight) over the River Rhine (?).

Tragic end, for such a brave man.

I used to gaze longingly at that (& certain other Taylor's) when they were first released, & then shown/displayed at various Airshows, which seemed to generate much custom.

As they were so expensive (as time went by), I've only ever had TWO Robert Taylor Print's, both of which I still have.

My Mother bought me 'Duel of Eagles' (signed by Bader & Galland), but I never hung it up, as the image itself never really interested me.......
('109 vs Spitfire ) - only kept it for the autograph's.
As a teenager (whilst they were both still alive), I knew of their historical importance, so never parted with it.

10 -11 years later - & my Mother again offered to buy me another print.

This time, I chose it - "Knight's Cross" signed by Erich Hartmann (No 375).

Pictures him shooting down an IL-2.m3 (Twin-seater) over an Orangy-Grey Cloudscape/Sunset - So I painted our Back-Bedroom walls to match the Print -
Wife WAS impressed .

My fave' Taylor (which sadly I don't own) is the stunning print, featuring a Squadron of Silver Consolidated B.24 Liberators, returning home, very-low, over an English 'South-Coast' fishing village - Astonishingly Good.

Anyone here on the forum, just happen to have that one ?????????

Re: How many of you also collect aviation art?

Appreciate the comments, Hornchurch.

The print you mentioned is entitled Mustangs on the Prowl. Righetti and the 55th FG are indeed crossing the Rhine by the Castle of Stableck looking for targets of opportunity in Spring '45.

In my humble opinion, every aviation library should have at least one of the books that publish copies of Taylor's prints.
