Re: How many of you also collect aviation art?

Kaptin_Kirk,
Another form of art I'm most familiar with and have ventured into is the customizing and bashing of 1/6th (12") scale figure models.
That painting of Gil Cohen's "Rosie's Crew" is what inspired me to assemble my very own 10-man B-17 crew to represent them in 3D.
I hope you like 'em as much as I do.

Hey that looks pretty cool Fly.

Re: How many of you also collect aviation art?

I have about 20 of Stan Stokes signed prints. He also remarqued an aviation art book for me. Drew a nice Wildcat in pencil and personalized it. I didn't know he was going to do that; I ordered the book at regular retail price from his phone ordering service and he must have been in the office that day.

Re: How many of you also collect aviation art?

I have "Memorial Flight" by Robert Taylor and a couple of prints/posters by William S. Phillips. Given the expense of the prints and the cost of framing, a single framed Robert Taylor print will run well over $500. This turned out to be too rich for my blood and I stopped collecting pretty quick (and turned my interest to diecast!).

I do regret that I never picked up "Home Run" by Robert Taylor. By far my favorite print of all time. Could have picked the print up for $400 about 12 years ago - now it sells in the secondary market for as high as $1,500.

Here's a LE print (#2/200) of a Fw 190, "Quiet, For Now".

Cool pics Kirk!

I have a bunch of aviation art, but none of it is framed yet.

Yes, same here! I have about 5 different prints, all WWII and signed by both the artist and pilots. Have one even signed by a ME-163 pilot. Very cool indeed!

Re: How many of you also collect aviation art?

MikeB1958-Is your print the one by Mike Machat signed by Wolfgang Spate and Rudolph Opitz? Do you have the book 'Top Secret Bird' by Spate? I also have a pencil print signed by Opitz. Now I'm waiting for a model and think I saw something about IXO thinking about it.
