The Marine

As some of you know, my son Nicholas is a U.S. Marine. He's back from a second tour in Iraq and is now getting ready for his third deployment on a MEU (Marine Expeditionary Unit). A friend of mine sent me this. I think you'll get a kick out of it.

The Marine
A United States Marine was attending some college courses between assignments. He had completed missions in Iraq and Afghanistan. One of the courses had a professor who was a vowed atheist and a member of the ACLU.

One day the professor shocked the class when he came in. He looked to the ceiling and flatly stated, "God, if you are real, then I want you to knock me off this platform. I'll give you exactly 15 minutes."

The lecture room fell silent. You could hear a pin drop. Ten minutes went by and the professor proclaimed, "Here I am God. I'm still waiting."
It got down to the last couple of minutes when the Marine got out of his chair, went up to the professor, and cold-cocked him; knocking him off the platform. The professor was out cold.

The Marine went back to his seat and sat there, silently. The other students were shocked and stunned and sat there looking on in silence. The professor eventually came to, noticeably shaken, looked at the Marine and asked, "What the hell is the matter with you? Why did you do that?"

The Marine calmly replied, "God was too busy today protecting America's soldiers who are protecting your right to say stupid sh** and act like an ***hole. So, He sent me."

Re: The Marine

That is a great story.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: The Marine

Semper Fi to that.

Maybe we ought to draft a bunch of university professors, and see whether they'll remain athiests while dodging ambushes and IEDs.

Part of our problem as a society is that we've reached the stage where the Virtual is as important to most as the natural. Since the Vietnam Era, the civilian population of this nation is able to see War in their living rooms, and assumes they are living through it. This Media-CNN effect has made War seem more accessible during a time when a smaller percent of the population than ever is bearing the true brunt and cost of military service. Having been overseas in places covered by the American media, I can reasonably assert that the media does distort the true picture of events. Yet how do we percieve events but through the media.

Now professors can run to town with perception and other blather, but when it comes to actually putting one's life on the line (for anything) I can definately assert that most acedemicians have no clue how to handle dangerous situations. The Ivory Tower has become a place where educational bureaucrats bicker endlessly over useless minutiae, while ignoring current events and trends in the name of Education. What I find really ironic is that these 60s campus radicals have formed an bureaucratic clicque dedicated to denying many of the acedemic freedoms they championed in their youth. Another 60s spawned irony is the antiwar movement, which fizzled out once the US Government ended the draft.

As for life teachers I will pick a combat veteran over a professor any time.

Aloha,
Skysurfer808

HotTrap, I have seen that joke before, but forgot it. Great story, I hope it's true too! Thanks for sharing.

Very profound Skysurfer, sombre thoughts that we should all dwell on for a while.
